That's what happens when you get a hole in your life...a hole in your heart. It's like one of those black holes in the universe; it just sucks everything in and leaves you empty....for a time. For the last few days, the tragic death of Steve Irwin has been in the news. He's better known as The Crocodile Hunter, and I believe he was the host of Animal Planet. Kids loved him; adults too. The one good thing is that he died doing what he loved to do. He was making an underwater fi lm, swimming just above a gigantic sting ray, when the sting ray struck him in the chest with its barbed tail. Apparently the barb is poisonous. Steve pulled the barb out, and he was pulled back to the boat, but the crew couldn't save him. Now I don't know much about Steve Irwin. I'd only heard about him on vari- ous news programs. Even so, one can't help but be moved by the circumstances of his death, photographs of him with his family, and the outpouring of love from his fans. I probably wouldn't have written about Steve except for a TV special I watched last night "A Song's Best Friend" about John Denver. In between John's sing- ing, there were interviews with people who knew him, including his former wife Annie. John died while fl ying his airplane alone. I have always loved John Denver. His music is like no other in its truth and simplicity. It got me through a lot of hard times during my divorce. What struck me was the similarity be- tween Steve and John.
