Main St., Quartzsite Walk to shopping! ~ Laundromat ~ RO Water ~ Thrift Shop ~ Delights Gifts & Antiques 928-927-4223 - PROPANE SALES - Open 7 days/week 7am-5pm Pets & Children Welcome! by Jane Finley writer * artist * teacher (stretching, exercise, relaxation, meditation) SOCK IT TO ME If the title sounds familiar, it dates you, and if you actually saw the TV show "Laugh-In," you must be really old! It occurs to me that a lot has hap- pened to me in the last several weeks that needed fi xing. Life has just been sockin' it to me one thing after another. Just as soon as I get one thing fi xed, an- other thing happens. Let's see: In Quartzsite: ran out of propane as I just started cooking dinner so had to fi gure out a place to cook it, ordered a new propane tank the next day with the required OPD safety valve, picked up the tank the next day and took it to be installed and fi lled. In Yuma: three dental surgeries in one day, a tire blow-out the same night and waiting for AAA, bought four new tires the next day. In El Golfo, Mexico: had to buy Mexi- can insurance in a torrential rainstorm where nobody spoke English and/or knew where to buy insurance, forded two streams to get to the RV Park. Back in Yuma, fi gured out how to fi x my camper door which was coming off the hinges, my icebox clogged up and fi lled with water so I had to clear the drain from both the inside and the outside with a long piece of thick wire I bought earlier for just that purpose (you can't always count on long, thin sticks in the desert), my stove quit working (nothing serious, just a loose connection), washed and waxed my RV which was covered with mud from El Golfo. In Puerto Penasco, Mexico: my roof vent was stuck in the open position (another chance to work on my left- brain persona). After unscrewing what I could unscrew from the inside and squirting Lock-Ease through the screen above my head, it worked! Tyson Road, Quartzsite Fridays 9 am – 5 pm At Parker Professional Bldg 1713 Kofa Ave, Parker Mon, Tues, Wed 8 - 4:30 pm At TriValley Medical Center Harquahala Road, Salome 2nd and 4th Thurs each month David Zarkou, D.P.M., is moving to La Paz County as our fi rst full-time podia¬trist. Starting in August, he will be located in Parker at the Parker Professional Building on Kofa Ave., and offer weekly ser- vices in Quartzsite at La Paz Medi- cal Services Clinic and bimonthly services in Salome at the TriValley Medical Center. With family in Arizona and California, he and his wife, with, in his words, "four beautiful daugh- ters and an infant son," found Parker the perfect location to settle after completing his residency in Youngstown, Ohio. He and his family moved to Parker in July and he looks forward to opening his practice in August. In addition to routine foot and ankle care, Dr. Zarkou studies included emphasis on reconstruc- tive foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine, trauma, diabetic wound care and limb salvage, and pediat- ric foot and ankle issues. "One of the unique characteristics of my training is the amount of time and experience I get preventing and treating wounds, primarily diabetic foot wounds," he said. A real plus in bringing Dr. Zar- kou here is that he can speak and read Spanish fl u¬ently. In addi- tion to his passion for his work, his family is his passion, along with read¬ing, fl y-fi shing, hik- ing, and playing basketball (he is VERY tall!), baseball, soccer and football. Local teams would do well to have him as team doctor, player, or coach! Beginning August 4, 2014, Dr. Zarkou will have offi ce hours in Parker at 1713 Kofa Ave., Suite K, across from Parker Family Practice. He will have offi ce hours in Quartzsite, at La Paz Medical Services, 150 E. Tyson Road, every Friday; and in Salome at TriValley Medical Center, 39726 Harquahala Road, on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month. To make an ap- pointment, call (928) 669-3033.
