OPINION letters to the editor VANDALISM ALERT 'We of TOPS 0078 of Quartzsite, want to congratulate Ms. Lydia Goll. She is awesome! She has already made her KOPS Sta- tus. Way to go Lydia we are all so very proud of you. Keep up the great and hard work. GOD BLESS! Glenda Kae Hines Quartzsite year-round resident CEMETERY EXPRESSES THANKS My name is Dinice Ross and I work for the Town of Quartzsite, in the Cemetery Department. In 2009, I sent out letters ask- ing for donations to help with some special projects at the Hi Jolly Cemetery. The donations came in, from $20.00 to $50.00 at a time; but, it was still not enough to get a Cremation Wall, a Veterans Pad, or for fencing of the south side of the cemetery. In 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, the donations kept coming in, mostly from the VFW, a couple of plant sales and Deanna Shee- han at the Quartzsite Bakery. To all of you who have donat- ed money, bought plants, and donated your time to our Cem- etery Walks – WE DID IT! The Veterans Pad has been installed, with a cover. The Cremation Wall is up and open for business (excuse the choice of words). The new entrance road is in with an island and landscaping. The south side of the cemetery is now fenced (thank you Parks Department!). I am starting another list of special projects for the cem- etery; but, in the meantime, take a drive and admire your money's work. Thank you many times over, Dinice Ross Cemetery Department THANK YOU FROM REC DEPT. I would like to thank all of the wonderful people that have donated crafts and money to our After School Program. Some of you have chosen to remain anonymous and drop items off Town Hall. Whoever you are, we would like to thank you. The youth and Recreation staff ap- preciate it. Cooperative Extension Service Spring and Summer Plant Fertilization Applying fertilizer to landscape plants is important in timing applications to allow for temperature changes. If you have citrus trees in your landscape avoid fertilizing during the months of June July and August. Our weather is just too hot during those months. The same reasoning holds true for other landscape trees and shrubs. For land- scapes that have Bermuda or St. Au- gustine grass warm/hot weather is the time to add fertilizer. Be sure to follow label directions. Over applications will result in a higher water requirement and more mowing. Heavy feeding vegetables like corn and melons will require a second application of fertil- izer about this time. Contact our offi ce to fi nd information on other heavy feeding vegetables. Proper fertilization at the right time can provide a healthi- er, more productive, and better looking landscape. Be sure to follow all label direction on fertilizer and feel free to contact our offi ce if you have landscape questions. The service is free. For more information, call 928 669-9843.
