Pi Deuteron ChaPter of Phi Gamma Delta at the university of Kansas • sPrinG 2014 "Not for College Days Alone" T his spring marks another end of the undergraduate Fraternity experience for a group of graduating seniors. I want to specifically thank this year's senior class and reflect on their four years at 1540 Louisiana. This class, led by past Chapter President Steve Melton '14, came to Pi Deuteron just a few months after I became your House Corporation President. Their college experience was almost instantly affected by the injury to one of their pledge brothers. The sanctions and other events that soon followed surely had a dramatic effect on their class. In the four years that followed, they experienced perhaps more change and adversity than any pledge class in recent memory at Pi Deuteron. I often tell new initiates to make the Chapter stronger than they found it. I am mighty proud to say that this group did just that. Thank you, brothers! Recruitment Efforts Already Underway No Fiji Jayhawker would be complete without at least one plea for recruitment. As most of you know, fraternity recruitment at KU is a year- around process and bid cards have been out for months. That in no way means the process is complete. Please take a minute to think of any quality young men that would make excellent members of Pi Deuteron. Send any recommendations to KUFijiRecruitment@gmail.com. If you want to call a recommendation to the attention of the House Corporation, please send a note to pideuterongrads@gmail.com. Stag Pig Already Set, September 26th It is never too early to start planning for Stag Pig. I am proud to say that the event has gotten bigger every year and this year will be no exception. The date has been set for Friday, September 26th, at The Oread in Lawrence. Once again, this is Homecoming Weekend at KU. Phi Gamma Delta also has a limited number of rooms available for that weekend. Contact The Oread for more details. Electronic Newsletter Last fall marked the unveiling of the electronic Fiji Jayhawker, and by all accounts the program went well. Depending on your preferences, some of you received a digital newsletter, most of you most likely received both a digital copy via e-mail and a print edition, while a few of you may have only received it by mail. The default is to send you both a printed and digital copy. If you would to change your preference, please let us know at pideuterongrads@gmail.com. Strategic Planning Finally, I want to let all of you know that the House Corporation has been diligently working on a long-term strategy for the Chapter House. As owner, it is our responsibility to ensure that the structure exceeds the needs of the undergraduate brothers, both now and well into the future. The function of a Chapter House is always evolving, so we need to ensure that 1540 Louisiana remains a desirable place to live for years to come. Thank you to your continued devotion to Pi Deuteron. Fraternally, Rick Boyd '93 House Corporation President pideuterongrads@gmail.com Perge! Thanks to the Graduating Class of 2014 The men of the Pi Deuteron Chapter with our lovely housemother, Jackie Henderson. Pi Deuteron Trivia Q: Four Pi Deuteron graduates have earned a total of five Olympic medals. Can you name them? (Answer on page 3!) The pledge class of 1992 celebrate their 25th anniversary and Silver Owls during Pig Dinner.
