E‑mail: tcbryan64@yahoo.com alumni news catching Up with gene andeRSon '57 B rother Gene Anderson '57 reports, "I was in the last pledge class in the old house (1710 Colorado) that the chapter inhabited before 2401 Longview. In the fall of 1957, I shared a room at the new impressive Phi Psi house with Ron Woods '57. It was an exciting time for the chapter and I was elected vice president of Texas Alpha. Money was always an issue for me and I had to go inactive before my term was out because I could not afford to continue. I was very unhappy about that, but it was necessary if I were to complete my education at U.T. While active, to make my dollars go further, I waited tables at the chapter and got a fulsome meal in return. I also drove the yellow school bus, which we called the 'Bummy Bus.' It was the brainchild of Brother Bummy Jary '55 that started at 2401 Longview. The route ended at the Law School. I'm sure regulations would not permit such an endeavor today. "To make ends meet after going inactive, I worked 20 hours a week at the Texas Textbook Agency on 6th and Congress and latterly for a professor at the U.T. School of Chemical Engineering. I graduated in January 1961." After graduation, Brother Anderson relocated to England where he had a 40-year career of purchasing, reorganizing, growing and selling businesses. He and his wife, Daniela, moved to the U.S. a few years ago and retired to Beverly Hills, Calif. Today they oversee their own college scholarship fund to assist students in continuing their education. To date, their foundation has awarded scholarships valued at nearly $900,000 to 50 students. Brother Anderson is scheduled to receive the Texas Alpha Private Sector Service Award at Founders Day 2015. You can contact Gene at ceadla@hotmail.com.
