There will be a tree planting demonstration with the local Boy Scouts. The small Spanish village of Vil- lanueva de la Sierra is the town where was held the fi rst Arbor Day around the world, a initiative launched in 1805 by the local priest with the enthusiastic support of the entire population. The fi rst American Arbor Day was originated in Nebraska City, Ne- braska, United States by J. Sterling Morton. On April 10, 1872, an estimated one million trees were planted in Nebraska. Birdsey Northrop of Connecticut was responsible for globalizing it when he visited Japan in 1883 and delivered his Arbor Day and Vil- lage Improvement message. In that same year, the American Forestry Association made Northrop the Chairman of the committee to cam- paign for Arbor Day nationwide. He also brought his enthusiasm for Arbor Day to Australia, Canada and Europe. Everyone is invited to enjoy the day at Town Hall Friday, April 25th at 1:30pm. Quartzsite Flute Circle (QFC) will be holding a special Native American Flute Circle jam session on Saturday, April 26th at 9am at Celia's Rainbow Gardens Amphitheatre. Members from the Yuma County Flute Circle will be joining them at this special time. Mark Church, of Quartzsite's Red- feather Rose Studios, said, "We're expecting at least seven fl ute players on hand for the session. Anyone is welcome to attend the session." The Quartzsite Flute Circle (QFC) is a small group of Native American Flute Enthusiasts who gather each Saturday Evening to share their musical talents or to just listen to the Spirit Music. A fl ute circle provides a venue in which people who are interested in the fl ute can gather and share tal- ents, perspectives, knowledge, and experiences. It is a gathering in which people can help one another musically, spiritually, culturally, and educationally. Any donations will go directly to the Garden's Maintenance Fund. Mark Church will also be making his Native American Flute CD's available for a $10 donation to the Gardens. The Gardens are lo- cated off Plymouth, on north side of Quartzsite Town Park. Follow the signs. Church said, "We would be honored to have anyone join in even if they are not a member of either fl ute circle."
