It is that time of the year again, time for Spring showers and thunderstorms. I see lots of showers in the future, and possibly our fi rst good thunder- storms of the season. We will still swing back and forth between cooler weather, then some near 70 degree readings, but nothing sustained. And that's how April usually goes. A Laughing Matter....Deputies On Donkeys The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department held their "Deputies on Donkeys" Part 2, a don- key basketball game, on Thursday, March 20th at Crest High School. The "Slick Sleeve Slam- mers" took on the "Blazing Brass". A valiant effort was made by all the deputies who contrib- uted their time to raise funds for the North Carolina Special OIympics. To the constant laughter and amazement of the crowd, this year's winning team was the "Slick Sleeve Slammers". As an honorary gesture, the game could only begin after Mayor Stan Anthony and Sheriff Alan Norman "kissed a donkey". The program netted a total of $5924.00 for the Special Olympics, but money is still coming in and the fi nal amount should be well over $6000. –M. A. Andrews Special guests, Cleveland County Sheriff, Alan Norman and Shelby Mayor, Stan Anthony give a traditional "kiss of thanks" to begin the "Deputies On Donkeys" basketball game.
