The No. 2 Cardinals (20-7), buoyed by a strong performance from Rachel Silva, who scored 10 points on the night, effectively held the No. 7 Warriors (15-11) at bay with a 12-0 run to start the third period. Going into halftime, the squads were a point apart, with the Cards leading 24-23. But a second-half commitment to the defensive end, coupled with a strong night of shooting from Silva, Kaylee Shoe - maker and Gates Fears, proved too much to handle for the Warriors. After jumping to a 15-9 lead in the first quarter, the Warriors battled back as Jaqueline Plasen - cia scored seven of her 14 points in the second quarter to bring Win- ters within one point of Corning at the half. The Cards, however, held the Warriors to two points in the third period, and outscored Winters 25- 17 in the second half to advance to the semifinal round.
