Sumter Street, Shelby, NC. This FREE Support Group offers a safe and confidential place for family members who have individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses. The share their experience, strength and hope and give help to others who are going through similar experiences as we have. Illnesses covered in the support group include: Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, also mental disorders with a component of substance abuse, and other neurobiological brain disorders. Through the Garden Gate at Cleveland County Memorial Library The Through the Garden Gate program on Thursday, November 21 the program will be A Taste of Christmas – Music with Georgiana Wright, Sean Whitworth, and Frank Lattimore, who will welcome the holiday season with a selection of Christmas songs. Both programs will be held in the meeting room at Cleveland County Library from 12:15-12:45. You can enter through the Garden Gate and enjoy our newly refurbished garden area. Ambassador Baptist College, Lattimore A Christmas Prelude at Ambassador Baptist College The public is cordially invited to kick off the Christmas season with Ambassador Baptist College's annual presentations of "A Christmas Prelude featuring Handel's Messiah." On Friday, November 29, and Saturday, November 30, the college chorale and selected soloists will be singing excerpts from Handel's Messiah, as well as additional Christmas selections. The doors will open each night at 6:15pm, and the concert will start at 7:00pm. Both concerts will be held in the R.A. Torrey Auditorium and are free of charge. Selections include Angels from the Realms of Glory, For Unto Us a Child Is Born, Still Is the Night, and the world-famous Hallelujah Chorus. Please plan to come early since seating is limited. Greater Shelby Community Theatre Auditions 2013 Boiling Springs Christmas Parade Greater Shelby Community Theatre announces auditions for the musical I Do, I Do, on FridaySaturday, November 22-23, 6:00pm to 9:00pm, and Sunday, November 24, from 2:30:5:30pm. Tryouts will be held in the basement of the Cleveland County Arts Council on Washington Street in Shelby. The show will be directed by Caroline Dedmon and has parts for one man and one woman. It covers fifty years of a marriage and includes the popular song, "My Cup Runneth Over." Persons wanting to audition should be prepared to sing. Performances will be February 7-8, 14-15, 7:30pm and February 9 and 16 at 2:30pm. The Boiling Springs Christmas Parade will be held on Sunday, December 1, 3:00pm. It is open to students in grades 9-12, including those home-schooled, who are citizens of the U.S. or lawful permanent residents. The local contest will be held Saturday, January 11, in the fellowship hall of Ascension Lutheran Church in Shelby. The winner will advance to district competition and, if successful there, to state and national competition. Prize money and college scholarships are awarded. New Support Group for Depression and Bipolar Disorder The local chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) will host regular, confidential, peer-led, self-help support group meetings on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Shelby. DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression). DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support which is an important component of recovery from mental illness for many people. DBSA is the nation's leading patient-directed organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses - depression and bipolar disorder. The organization has over 400 independent local chapters that operate over 1000 selfhelp support groups around the United States. Mental Health Association of Cleveland County Survivors of Suicide Support Group meets twice a month, with a daytime and evening meeting.
