We always carried ourselves as leaders and it was apparent in all the activities which we were involved with." The excitement surrounding VEISHEA week was Matt's favorite time of year. "I have so many fond memories from my time as an undergraduate, but each year when it was time to roll the float out of the barn and take it to the staging area—that was always a very memorable experience." Matt graduated from ISU with a bachelor's degree in history and political science. He owns Converse Conditioned Air Inc., a fullservice mechanical contracting company serving the state of Iowa for residential and commercial customers. He began working for his father as an undergraduate, and after graduation started his own company. Converse Conditioned Air has grown from a one man shop to employing 31 people and working out of a 36,000 square foot office and production facility. "The fraternity gave me the leadership and background to work with all different types of people. Networking skills were also developed while at Delta Tau Delta, which has also proved to be valuable. Those skills have helped grow my business and that all started at Delta Tau Delta." He knew it was important to stay involved in the fraternity, helping future generations by serving on the house corporation for the past eight years, and through his company, he helps with maintenance around the chapter house. He remembers the impact alumni like Chuck Safris '63 and Larry Curtis '68 had on him and hopes to provide that for the chapter's current members. "The chapter is strong with a good group of guys thinking in the right direction and thinking hard about their futures and the future of the chapter." Staying in contact with the chapter has also allowed him to stay connected to his brothers through get-togethers, phone calls, and e-mail. "I encourage anyone who has lost touch to reach out to your friends from the class and house; they are still good friends. People's lives change as you grow older, but these are really good friends for the rest of your life, and it's important to maintain that." Matt and his wife, Sara, live in Ames, Iowa, and have two children, Andrew and Allison. He enjoys golfing, grilling and smoking food, and attending ISU football and basketball games.
