When Jeff Henning '71 met the members of Delta Tau Delta he knew he found the right place for him. "I liked the chemistry of the chapter members. Our pledge class was fairly large for the time, and they turned out to be a great bunch of guys." Jeff served the chapter as the house manager, assistant treasurer, and treasurer. "I learned team work and loyalty, both qualities that have served me well as an adult," he said. Jeff graduated with a bachelor's degree in engineering operations. He is the chairman of Henning Construction Company and several affiliated entities. "I started out under the table saw as a kid working construction, and after graduation I returned to the business in a management capacity in 1971, then purchased the companies in 1973." Being able to use the skills he learned in Delta Tau Delta has helped him throughout his career. "I learned how to treat people respectfully. I learned discipline, and as the treasurer I learned accounting skills and how to build teams that remained loyal." His connection to Gamma Pi and his brothers has remained strong over the years. "The long-standing connection that my pledge class has kept alive and well has left me with many special memories. We get together at tailgates before home football games and other events throughout the year." He also has served as a member of the house corporation for several years and serves on the Delta Tau Delta national education foundation board. Jeff's experience has showed him the value of staying connected to the chapter and brothers and hopes anyone who has lost touch can reconnect. "It takes two to make things happen. Anyone who has lost touch should reach out and see what they can do to reconnect. The rewards of getting back in touch can be heartwarming and make you feel good." Jeff and his wife of 39 years, Cindy, live in West Des Moines, Iowa, and have two daughters, Heather and Lisa. In his free time he enjoys golfing. Alumnus Thankful for Skills Learned in Delta Tau Delta Matt Converse '96 Volunteers on House Corporation to Support Future Generations A ttending Iowa State University, Matt Converse '96 wanted to get involved on campus and was eager to participate in building VEISHEA floats. When he met the members of Delta Tau Delta he knew he found a place to do both. "The guys that recruited me did a really great job. I knew they were a good group of guys and it felt like the right fit. Also, I was really interested in VEISHEA floats and I knew the fraternity built one each year." Matt was active in the fraternity, serving as VEISHEA co-chairman and second vice president. "One thing about Delta Tau Delta at ISU is when you wear those letters you (Continued on page 4) Page 3
