DTD The Punch Gamma Pi Chapter I Delta Tau Delta Fraternity I Iowa State University I Fall 2013 Delt Creed Impacts Lives Far Beyond College Days I believe in Delta Tau Delta for the education of youth and inspiration of maturity so I may better learn and live the truth. – First stanza of The Delt Creed These were likely the first official words you memorized on your Delt journey. They kicked off your commitment to lives of excellence and rolled off your tongue hundreds of times while in school. What does it still mean to the men of Gamma Pi? It's more than just brotherhood. Here's what I'm experiencing after serving as an advisor for the past 15 years: 1. I believe in Delta Tau Delta—They don't just say it. They truly believe in it and take action to show it. 2. . . . for the education of youth—The growth extends far beyond the books to include social, organizational and leadership development. 3. . . . and the inspiration of maturity—Over 100 young men are holding each other accountable and lifting each other up if they fall. 4. . . . so I may better learn and live the truth—The investment yields a return over a lifetime that impacts careers, families and communities. Does this short sentence continue to guide you? You may not say the words, but do you still believe in Delta Tau Delta for the education of youth and the inspiration of maturity so you may better learn and live the truth? Thank you for leading the way and know that the young men that follow have an opportunity to experience an amazing Delt journey and live lives of excellence. Fraternally, Michael J. Gamma Pi Shows Leadership on Campus and in the Community B rothers, 2013 has been a great year to be a Delt. New and exciting experiences coupled with joyous celebrations have left lasting memories insides the hearts and minds of our men. Throughout this year, we have had our share of difficult decisions and hard times, but with the strength, commitment, and passion we share as brothers we have journeyed through these together and come out better men, and better Delts. I believe a key concept to achieving greatness as a chapter is for our members to find their passion and run with it. It has been an idea that I have been pushing for the entirety of my term as president, and as that term comes to a close, I can proudly say that Gamma Pi Chapter has done great things, implemented strong changes, and started new values-based traditions in this past year. Brotherhood has been a constant focus throughout this year, and the new pledge class is a tangible asset we can see developing from day to day. Activities such as stick-ball in the front yard, pledge class broom ball, group dinners in our dining room, and those late-night chats have all strengthened our fraternity. An increased emphasis on giving back to our community has also taken root in the chapter, including events such as this fall's DTD/DZ carnival and last semester's new and hugely successive philanthropic benefit concert to support the Juvenile Diabetes wResearch Fund. Gamma Pi has been succeeding and leading in events and organization on and off campus. With 97% of our members involved with an outside organization, many of whom are leading their respective groups, Delta Tau Delta has cast a wide web of influence across the Iowa State and the Ames communities. These involvements strengthen our fraternity as members are able to take what they learn and experience independently and put it back into the chapter in a variety of ways. This diversity of our fraternity helps our members grow as we learn from each other's (Continued on page 2) Members enjoyed attending the annual Western Plain Divisional Conference.
