Knightly Sigma Nu Fraternity s News UNIVERSITY OF southern california Fall 2013 Sigma Nu Holding Corporation: What's in our future? G reetings, Sigma Nu brothers and friends! The actives have moved back into our rebuilt house for the start of year two, and we are working out the kinks that pop up every now and then. With help from the Parents Club, some creative actives, and some well-spent funds, the Sigma Nu House at 660 28th Street is looking great. that we establish our own foundation that will support all things Sigma Nu, such as: If this appeals to you, and the spirit moves you, get in contact with me—I need your help. • The Local Chapter and its Charitable Initiatives • USC Sigma Nu Alumni Events • The University of Southern California • Sigma Nu National With most of the heavy lifting behind us, we are now turning our attention to the future. As you read further, you will see that Richard Oswald '76, EO 831, has many plans for Sigma Nu fellowship during the coming year. However, the future I am referring to is the long-term financial plans for the Holding Corporation. Presently we are in good financial shape and now we need to focus on our future. Over the next four months I am seeking input with interested brothers with the hope of refining a long-term strategy that has broad appeal. I hope we can craft a vision that will evolve from a "Yoder vision" into the USC Sigma Nu vision. Lastly, for those of you who responded to the appeal for funds in the past few years, know this: your contributions to the USC EO Sigma Nu are establishing a foundation for future giving that will provide financial support for all the things listed above and maybe more. Your contributions do not provide for below-market rents for undergraduates. They are an investment that will pay generous dividends for many years to come. Think about this! What non-profit charitable venture exists that can deliver a 15% return to the communities it cares most about? This will be fun, and we can do this! I have been floating my vision for the future of the Sigma Nu Holding Corporation over the last two years with a number of you. The vision is this: by January 1, 2020, the Sigma Nu house is completely paid off, and the holding corporation has net rental income of $300,000 per year. And So, what can you do? For starters, I am looking for "a few good men." I need: • A few brothers who will join me in refining this vision. • An attorney and an accountant helping us explore the formation of our own 501(c)(3). • Brothers who can embrace our final vision and be supporters and ambassadors for this effort. Won't you join me? Fraternally, Greg Yoder '79, EO 901 EO Holding Corporation President gyoder@cbiz.com (408) 591-6738 Epsilon Omicron Already Exceeding Expectations for the Fall F all 2013 represents a large opportunity for an eager Chapter. A combination of moving into an improved fraternity house and successful recruitment week has the active brothers hyped and prepared for the rest of the semester. Recruitment week ended very well with 27 new candidates, the largest pledge class for Epsilon Omicron since fall 2009. New members have been showing up every day to get to know the active Chapter members as fast as possible. At the beginning of recruitment, we set the goal to give out 25 bids. After exceeding our high expectations, the Chapter is very excited and plans on surpassing all goals for the fall. Taken at the 2013 Plaque Banquet: Logan Heley '12, EO 1697, Danny Ellebrecht '09, EO 1620, Bobby Hansen '44, EO 482, Jake Lefkowitz '09, EO 1618, Luke Murphy '05. EP 1523, Grant Wooldridge '11, EO 1707, and Winston van Keulen '12, EO 1698. Sigma Nu continues to pride ourselves on maintaining the reputation of being the gentlemen of the row, as well as having the second-highest chapter GPA. We understand that character and intelligence remains at the top of our priorities. Our goal is to improve the Chapter's GPA to a 3.33 and be (Continued on page 2)
