Toby's grandparents, Rose and Doyle Castor have been raising money through a farmers market booth for a few years. They can be found from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the Frontier Village Farmers Market selling birdhouses and other items while collecting tabs. While that helps, it's nowhere near the amount needed so the family is teaming up with Jessie Woods, owner of The Gold Exchange, to take it a bit farther. With help from the Red Bluff Moose Lodge, which is providing the location, there will be a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 11745 SR 99W. Tickets, available at The Gold Exchange on Walnut Street, are $10 for adults and $7 for ages 5-12. Raffle tickets are $1 each or $5 for 6. Chad Bushnell will be providing entertainment during the evening and the family will be selling Tabs 4 Toby wristbands for $1 along with a By RICH GREENE If you go... Winners need not be present. For the last three years, Woods has been partnering with the Drummond family in Tabs 4 Toby, collecting soda can tabs that allow them to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. "It's takes three gallons of tabs to pay for just one night and three pounds is what fits in a gallon plastic bag that's full," Woods said. "We have everyone bring in tabs." Karl Jones collects tabs at some of the local bars including Tips and The End Up and a local ladies guild Missionaries to convene in Red Bluff Sunday also donate tabs, she said. There are also a number of homeless who will bring in tabs, which really touches her heart, Woods said. "Toby really is an angel among us," Woods said. "I've talked with Ronald McDonald House and the majority of the tabs come from Northern California. I really believe this young boy had to do with that." Toby, the second son of Mercy High School graduates Bryce and Suzanne Drummond, was diagnosed at an early age with Arnold Chiari Malformation Type 1. This means the portion of the brain controlling his central nervous system is being choked off by his spinal cord, causing paralysis and inability to sit up, crawl, walk, talk and sometimes eat. DN Staff Writer Missionaries from around the globe will share their experiences during a 3-day conference in Red Bluff Sunday through Tuesday. The Community Baptist Church, at 598 Roundup Ave. next to the Tehama District Fairground, is presenting the World Missions Conference. The conference will feature people who did missionary work in India, Haiti, Bulgaria, Egypt and China. "It's really interesting to hear what people are doing in parts of the world you may never go to," Pam Hilligan said. Hilligan said the public will be broken into groups and spend about 15 minutes with each missionary before rotating to another speaker. About a dozen mis- sionary workers are expected to attend. Hilligan said in the past people have been inspired by the conference to the point they volunteer to do missionary work themselves. "There's a lot of people who would like to do this work," she said. The missionary work being done ranges from working in medical clinics to teaching people how to raise chickens. The conference will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. Hilligan said all are welcome to join the church for fellowship, fun and food. "If you say food, you get more people," Hilligan joked.
