P 4 THANK YOU FOR COUNTRY BASH This letter is a big “Thank You” to Monica Timberlake. She was in charge of the Harry Luge concert held at the town park Sat, Oct. 2. What a wonderful activity. There was a water slide, horse shoes, a penny auction and delicious food before the concert started and people of all ages enjoyed the various events. We have lived in Quartzsite 10 years and have never seen such a gathering of young adults and their families. It was joyous to behold. There was a beer garden, but no one was out of control. People were just relaxed, visiting, and listening to some terrific music. Harry Luge and his band were talented and gracious young men. Thanks again, Monica and all her volunteers, for a job well done. Mike and Judy Nacheff, Billie Fowler Quartzsite SCENIC ROAD: WE FEEL WELCOME When Randie and I decided to buy a snowbird RV park, Quartzsite was a natural choice. So when we found the old Desert Sunset up for sale, we were very interested in spite of it’s condi- tion. Over the past few months, we have taken on the biggest fixer-upper challenge of our life as we created The Scenic Road RV Park. Coming from Hawaii, our first summer in the desert “THE PEOPLE’S VOICE” Letters to Editor Policy Desert Messenger encourages letters from its readers. To avoid confusion over people with common or similar names, writers must provide a full name and indicate the name they are known by. Writers must provide a full street address and phone number. The experi- ence has brought a whole new meaning to the term “sweat equity”. It has been an adventure, fun at times, and always rewarding. But most of all, it has been a LOT of work. Certainly we could not have done it alone and have so many to thank for their assistance and hard work in the summer heat - most notably GD Plumbing and J&S Electric. Coming from a state not known to be business friendly, it has been a pleasure to work with the Quartzsite Town Hall team, and I have been so impressed with the generosity with which the established park owners in Quartzsite have shared their advice and knowledge with the rookie in town. Any doubts that may have lingered about our new chosen home have quickly disappeared. At every turn, we have been made to feel welcome, and we look forward to our first winter season...and many to follow. Thank you Quartzsite for your support. Betty Crenshaw, Owner including that of electing a new school board. Of the 5 positions that make up the Quartzsite Elementary School Board, 3 of those are open. I have spent a large portion of my time at the elementary school over the last five years as a parent volunteer. I have attended the majority of the school board meetings since 2007 and I am aware of many of the issues our school is currently facing. However, I am first and foremost a parent with the best interest of the chil- dren of our community at heart. That is why I decided to run for school board. I know what a wonderful com- munity this is and what an amazing school we did and can have again. I want to make a difference for our chil- dren and feel that being a school board member is the best way to accomplish this. I look forward to being part of a team that works to make our school the very best it can be. Please make sure to take the time on November 2nd to let your voice be heard at the polls. This is a right and privilege we have as United States citi- zens and an opportunity to make your opinions known. Respectfully, Monica Timberlake Quartzsite CALL TO THE PUBLIC GUILDELINES Quartzsite has a lot of Wonderful people. The great success of the Quartz- site Country Bash shows the positive wholesome things our town can ac- complish. For quite some time Town Council meetings have been pleasant. People get along and smile and citizens have not been spewing hatred from the podium. People were appalled at the unaccept- able behavior that was allowed from the podium at the last Town Meeting by Jennifer “Jade” Harris [Jones]. Shame on her for that reprehensible behavior O 20, 2010 and shame on Mayor Foster for allow- ing it. By allowing this behavior, it ap- pears the Mayor wants to incite hatred and anger. Since my wife and I heard Mayor Foster strongly encourage Jade Harris [Jones] to sue the town and town officials at a coalition meeting, it appears there is conspiracy between those two and others to make things so bad that our Town and Police force are disbanded. Is lawlessness what the good people of Quartzsite want? Why should the good people of Quartzsite allow bullying and vicious, slanderous, venomous hatred from the podium and from internet blogs? Are we going to allow a few an- archists take over our town and make it a miserable place to live? Call to the public guidelines include: “Remarks should be limited to state- ments about Town issues and not personal attacks.” Also: “Citizens shall observe rules of propriety, decorum and good conduct. Profanity, threatening or personal attacks and slanderous remarks are not permitted.” Also: “the individual may be barred from further audience before the Council”. Jade Harris [Jones] was not discussing town issues, she was promoting her business, bullying and spewing vicious, venom- ous hatred. This is not her first time. The good people of Quartzsite need to band together and make sure this is not allowed. The Town Council should vote to bar her permanently from Town Meetings. Ron Jones Proud Quartzsite Resident ART GUILD THANKS JAN OF HERB’S Both the AZ Centennial Committee and the Art Guild wishes to thank Jan at Herb’s Hardware. She was generous in donating the first two pieces of plywood and working with the Art Guild for the future purchases for the “Art Along Main Street” project.
