FREE! WED. OCT. 20, 2010 Vol. 7 Issue #117 PLEASE TAKE ONE N O! www.DesertMessenger.com Excitement builds for Arizona Centennial ment is starting here in Quartz- site! The Arizona Centennial is coming and we are all part of it in a big way. What we do today will continue on for a long time. The first Arizona Centennial Calendar Event Planning Meet- ing was held last Tuesday at the Mountain Quail RV Clubhouse at 10 AM who also provided a terrif- ic AZ Centennial Birthday cake. This was for the AZ Centennial Special to Desert Messenger by Violet Kiss Hear ye, Hear ye! What excite- of Quartzsite Planning Com- mittee to “meet and greet” with organizations and businesses in Quartzsite and for everyone to coordinate their annual event plans into the overall AZ Cen- tennial Events Calendar. What a great idea, to coordinate ALL events happening in and around bustling Quartzsite from now until February 14, 2012 the actu- al Centennial Birthday Celebra- tion of Arizona as the 48th State of the United States of America. Let’s also give one big THANK YOU to the Arizona Centennial Committee of Quartzsite for tak- ing on such a huge project when there are no funds coming from the State for this year-long cel- ebration. Just think, all of the activities that will be going on weekly, often over an entire weekend, for the next year and 3 months can and will continue on and on. Why? We have many towns- people and families who would love having year-round activi- ties including throughout the summer months. We have had many events during the winter months for vendors, visitors and snowbirds, that’s a given. Now let’s have it ALL year! We will be having fun events for the young, old, and young-at- heart. We will have activities for families, children, adults, and communities to get together, sit together, share time, stories, and fun. We will have parties, carni- vals, parades, vendors, conces- sion stands, raffles, contests of all sorts. Quartzsite is getting a “beauty treatment”, with the refurbish- ing of the “Q”, new trees, bench- es and our local artists’ artwork on Main Street and with new bold signage on all four corners to invite all to come and enjoy this thriving and growing town. New buildings and businesses are coming. They will continue to come, build and settle in our beautiful Quartzsite. I do need to ask a favor of ev- eryone in Quartzsite though. How are we going to accomplish this? I encourage all RV Park Owners, all Business Owners, all Organizations Chairs, everyone MAIN STREET to come to the next Centennial Planning Meeting on Monday, October 25th , 7 PM, at the QIA for one heck of a planning session. The meeting is held in cooperation with the Quartzsite Busines Chamber of Commerce during their regualr business meeting. It doesn’t matter if you are ‘seasonal’, snowbirds or snowbird groups, winter visi- tor-related, or year-round. The more the merrier. Come one, come all. Bring your calendars for the Quartzsite’s FREE Community Paper at Rockin’ in Quartzsite! Rocks and Artists Rock Art & Red Ribbon Week! Sat. Oct. 23rd • 11am QUARTZSITE- Proud Neighbors of Quartzsite (PNQ) presents “Rockin’ in Quartzsite! If you missed last year’s nual public art event with the opening of the “Rock Motel”, located at 100 W. Kuehn, (Tyson Wells Showgrounds) where the “Rock Art Pieces” will be painted and decorated by local artists. Integrating Red Ribbon rest of this year and especially next year’s to coordinate with the Centennial’s calendar. It will give one large “kick” to a fun Centennial Year finishing off with the biggest party of the State here in Quartzsite ending on February 14, 2012! The added benefits? We get to “party” every month, most week- ends year-round EVERY year! Way to go, Quartzsite…Rock On Quartzsite! For more info check out AZ Centennial of Quartzsite on www.facebook.com. The artists are painting flagstone slabs, which will be very visible when the Rock Art is placed all around town from early No- vember through March 1st. Re- ducing drugs and substance abuse within the community is one of our main projects, and getting the community together for events like this helps to show that they as well feel that we should be work- ing together to form a cleaner, more healthy community. We would love for you all to join us on the 23rd to show your support for a drug free community! www. proudneighbors.com. 2 4 8 12 14 15 16 20 21 What’s Inside Editorial Letters to Editor Around Town Scholars’ Journalism Thoughtbuster Restaurants Church Directory Puzzles Astrology 22-23 Classifieds Sunsetters RV Park 165 E.
