While at the restaurant, folks were greeting and hugging each other, saying, “It’s old home week!” Smiles, laughter, and handshakes were shared. People making room for their friends at their tables, sharing good food together in harmony. Last week, the Arizona League of Cities and Towns gave our town council members a refresher course on why they sit on that dias. Little did anyone realize the extent that bullying would reach such a national fo- cus on news and talk shows recently. The public is invited to participate in these meetings, however the Arizona Open Meeting Laws do not require public input. It is a privilege our Town Council gives us as citizens. It was brought to everyone’s attention lives and in society at large, sometimes we do need to focus on what we don’t want. Then we can decide what we really want. What are we going to replace bully- ing with? If we remember it is only a be- havior and that behavior is a choice, then we can choose to behave differently. It is up to parents to teach the children town to show compassion for each other. Volunteering for our many non-profit organizations, attending the amazing choice of positive events for our com- munity, smiling at strangers, lending a helping hand to an elder, waving to each other as we drive down the road, seeking to understand another when we disagree, supporting our local football team who, by the way, are undefeated! Homecoming is Friday night at 7pm at compassion for each other. It is up to our town leaders, employers, and all adults to be positive role models for all of us. There are many opportunities in our for everyone to be positive role models, not just for the adults, but also for our children. Just last month, a gay teen took his own life after leaving a heated council meeting in Norman, OK. We don’t always know how our actions will affect others, but they will. What legacy are you leav- ing behind? When making changes in our personal the Town Park! Don’t miss the opportu- nity to support our youth, through this healthy competition!
