Free home visitation ser- vices offering the Healthy Families and Parents as Teachers evidence-based models that promote child development, healthy attachments, and parent success… all in the comfort of your home and at NO COST to you! The program is supported by First Things First. The La Paz/Mohave Regional Council deter- mined the need was to provide home visitation services in parts of the region where there are gaps in services. Becoming a parent is both rewarding and chal- lenging. It's important to have support on your journey. Children don't come with instruction manuals, after all. Home visitors are here to help, so parents can raise healthy and happy children. Home visiting connects expecting parents and parents of young children with a trained support person. Participation is free and voluntary, and families receive regular support and coaching in the comfort of their own home. HOME VISITING BENEFITS both children and parents. A home visit might include: • Child development information so parents understand how their child grows • Activities to help early childhood development • Ways to promote school readiness • Building positive parent-child relationships • Tools for managing stress • Support for parents in reaching personal goals • Referrals to other resources and services WHO IT'S FOR: • Families with young children (birth to age 5) • New and expectant parents • Teen parents • Grandparents raising grandchildren WHY IT MATTERS: You are your child's fi rst and best teacher. Start- ing from birth, having a close, positive relation- ship with parents and primary caregivers makes a huge impact on a child's future. Home visita- tion programs can support you and your family to be healthy, strong and thriving. WHAT IT IS: First Things First supports free home visitation programs across Arizona that provide personal- ized, in-home support for expectant mothers and families with children birth to age 5. A trained home visitor will work with you, in the conve- nience of your own home, to: • Support you in promoting your child's healthy development and school readiness • Build positive parenting knowledge and skills • Promote overall family well-being • Provide resources and referrals to community services First Things First is an essential leader and part- ner in creating a family-centered, equitable, high- quality early childhood system that supports the development, well-being, health and education of all Arizona's children, birth to age 5. There are different types of programs to respond to diverse families and communities.
