Page 18 www.yoursun.com The building was repaired and remained as a bait house. Jack Pearson died, but in 1955, Minnie and a new partner, Edgar Van Norman, built the new Bait House across the road from the old co-op fish house. Minnie Pearson continued to run The Bait House for many years. These days, Atamanchuk and Cherie Peretz, an employee, are more than happy to serve the fishing community as fishermen themselves. "The customers are one of the best parts about working," Atamanchuk said. "Nobody comes in a bad mood and their enthusiasm is contagious for us." Besides bait and fishing supplies, The Bait House oers a fishing charter called The Reef Raider for those who want to try deep-sea fishing. It's a regular occurrence to see fisherman casting o the bridge and boaters pulling up to refuel. This time of year, it's the season for anglers to fish for barracuda, tarpon, redfish and spotted sea trout. "Inshore live shrimp, and oshore squid are the most popular types of bait right now," Peretz said. "We've got a really good shrimp supplier," Atamanchuk said, pointing to Birdsey.
