Women will be allowed to move into the chapter house on August 1, 2023. W h y T r i D e l t a ? Tri Delta's current sorority house at 1630 Oxford Road was scheduled to be demolished in May 2023. Tri Delta hopes to open their new facility in August 2024, but if it is not completed by that date, Tri Delta has the option to lease the chapter house on a month-to-month basis through May 31, 2025. Tri Delta can have a maximum of 75 women and a house director living in the chapter house. All removable Sigma Chi paraphernalia in the chapter house, such as composites, pictures of prominent Alpha Xis, trophies, etc., has been stored in either the Knorr Suite on the second floor of the chapter house or the chapter room. Other than these two rooms, to which only House Corporation has access, Tri Delta has access to the rest of the chapter house. M a i n t e n a n c e P l a n s Although the revenue generated from the Tri Delta lease will allow House Corporation to meet anticipated minimum monthly expenses over the term of the lease, House Corporation did incur approximately $100,000 of expenses to make leasehold improvements at Tri Delta's request. Among other things, Tri Delta requested that House Corporation: (1) undertake minor modifications to the congregate bathrooms; (2) repair or replace interior doors and door handles and locks; (3) repair and/or replace damaged sheetrock; (4) paint all interior rooms and hallways; (5) repair and/or replace ceiling tiles and window blinds; and (6) have the chapter house professionally cleaned. Through the efforts of President Jim Handy '81, House Corporation was able to timely complete the requested leasehold improvements to Tri Delta's satisfaction, and Tri Delta took possession of the house on May 1, 2023. House Corporation will also move forward with a planned roof replacement this summer, which will cost approximately $105,000. H e l p i n g U s S t a y A f l o a t Even though House Corporation did not make a formal solicitation request in the fall 2022 edition of Kansas Sig, many brothers still contacted House Corporation about donating funds so House Corporation could pay its ongoing monthly expenses to maintain the chapter house. We thank those brothers who donated, as those funds allowed House Corporation to not only pay its bills but also make the leasehold improvements requested by Tri Delta. Looking ahead to Sigma Chi's return to KU, House Corporation anticipates additional funding will be needed for capital improvements and upgraded amenities to keep the chapter house one of the best, if not the best, fraternity housing facilities at KU. House Corporation has engaged Pennington & Company to determine the viability of a fundraising campaign. We will keep alumni informed of our plans. Fraternally, Alpha Xi House Corporation
