ALPHA XI page 2 DON'T WAIT, GET INVOLVED NOW! House Corporation also engaged Pennington & Company to survey a very small group of alumni and gauge interest in assisting with the rechartering process; the preliminary results are that alumni want to assist. Rather than waiting to be asked, please volunteer now for this important role by contacting Hunter Anderson '06 at hunteranderson19@gmail.com, Jeff Whelan '06 at sigwheels@gmail.com, or Kyle White '06 at kyleawhite@gmail.com. WILL YOU HELP US REBUILD? Although it's two years away, we need brothers to step up now to serve on an Alumni Advisory Board to work with the New Chapter Development Committee (NCDC) of the fraternity. With alumni help, we hope to be ready to recruit members and establish a colony that will resurrect Alpha Xi Chapter. While each situation varies, the colonization and rechartering process generally begins with a declaration of intent from an interest group of young men who agree to adhere to the Jordan Standard and the everyday values of Sigma Chi: friendship, justice, and learning. In turn, this interest group must obtain letters from fraternity officers, fraternity alumni, and KU to support their quest to recharter Alpha Xi. The Alumni Advisory Board will work closely with NCDC to assist the interest group in meeting a defined set of milestones for the rechartering process, which can sometimes take longer than a year. T he fall 2022 edition of Kansas Sig summarized the September 2022 memorandum of understanding between the fraternity and KU. Unless the deadlines in the MOU are modified, there cannot be an attempt to form or recruit members for a prospective Sigma Chi chapter prior to August 1, 2025, and the earliest date on which a Sigma Chi chapter can reoccupy the chapter house is August 1, 2026. Alpha Xi's Rechartering Plans T he fraternity experience didn't end after college for Scott Tschudy '80—it continues to this day as he works hard to return Alpha Xi to its former glory at the University of Kansas. Through ongoing responsibilities and legacy connections, Sigma Chi has had a profound impact on Scott's life. N e w E x p e r i e n c e s "I didn't have anybody in my family in the Greek system," Scott admitted, unfamiliar with fraternity life when he started at KU. Through his father's work, Scott met the late Kevin Nunnink '74 and was persuaded to check out the Alpha Xi house. "Kevin was right—I have never regretted the decision." Interested in leadership opportunities, Scott became Rock Chalk Revue director with Peter Aberg '80 before serving as secretary/annotator and eventually pro consul and consul. "That experience of trying to maintain order and be a mediator—you never have that opportunity again." O n g o i n g D e v o t i o n Beyond his college years, Scott has been proud to work on the House Corporation Board since the early 2000s. He was even president of the board for a while as his three sons all experienced Alpha Xi for themselves. Living in the Kansas City area, Scott serves as president of the Greater Kansas City Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter in addition to serving on the House Corporation Board. He is fortunate to maintain connections with the fraternity, even during a challenging time for Alpha Xi. L o o k i n g A h e a d "I'm trying to get Sigma Chis from various chapters back involved with the fraternity and to help undergraduate chapters," Scott said. For Alpha Xi, his belief is that in three years, the chapter can be rechartered with 80 members living in the house. "Dealing with the undergraduates has its challenges, there's no question about that. But as I tell people, the undergraduates are only limited by their imagination. I enjoy the challenge of trying to stay one step ahead. It's refreshing to hang around younger folks who have a different perspective of things." Scott and his wife, Carolyn, are proud parents to a Pi Phi daughter and three Sigma Chi sons, whom Scott cherished fraternity activities with. "I could see similar personality types from the guys in each of my sons' pledge classes, and even similar sorority personalities in my daughter's sisters. The virtues and values taught by Sigma Chi are still there." You can connect with Scott and learn more about rechartering efforts at bstschudy@gmail.com. L i f e l o n g L o y a l t y Scott Tschudy '80 Remains Dedicated to Sigma Chi "I think it's important now more than ever for alumni to get involved, whether it's financially or volunteering to help the chapter get rechartered." COmmITTEE mEmBERS NEEDED! Scott (middle right) with his three sons at initiation for his youngest son, Ben Tschudy '18.
