Ball State University Epsilon Mu Chapter Spring 2023 THE IRIS Celebrating Mom's Day • 2 Dedication to Excellence • 3 Creating a Suitable Environment for Delt Men to Grow Completed and Planned Improvements to Our Home W e are excited about the progress of the undergraduate chapter and the Shelter improvements we have planned for this summer. The membership has finally overcome the COVID-19 setback. They've expanded their community service, sponsored more events on campus, and established themselves as social leaders in the fraternity/ sorority community. All this while the Greek landscape continues to change on campus. You'll learn more in the president's report on page 3. Updates to the shelter Our charge is to provide a safe, comfortable environment conducive to our members' growth as Delt men of excellence. To that end, we have repaired the damage caused by excessive freezing during the winter and added some new heaters and flooring. We have made some other improvements to the Shelter and look forward to making more through the summer. We upgraded the plumbing for the Iris, added an ice machine to the kitchen, replaced one of our water heaters, and made many cosmetic improvements through the course of regular maintenance and targeted projects. One of the major upgrades we will make this summer is to the kitchen. We will be installing new induction ovens and a commercial exhaust system, which will greatly improve the cooking experience for residents and guests while ensuring that the kitchen is a safe and efficient space. This will also cut down on kitchen maintenance. This upgrade is just one example of our commitment to providing a high-quality living experience for everyone in the house. We'll also be making improvements to the kitchen plumbing, replacing the sub-flooring in the laundry areas and installing durable flooring, and upgrading the workout room, which is one of the most active facilities in the Shelter. In addition, we'll be replacing some of the older, worn furniture in the common areas. Additional composites will adorn more walls and we'll be brightening common rooms with new coats of paint to liven up the areas. New paint will also be applied to the ceilings of the residents' rooms and walls where necessary. We will also be enhancing the study room to provide dedicated space for our members' academic pursuits. ConneCt with Us This summer, we'll be hosting undergraduate work sessions on June 10-11 and July 15-16. Of course, any interested alumni are welcome to attend! It's a great way to build brotherhood and network with one another. And, if you know of any potential candidates who will be attending Ball State in the fall, please contact Cam Lusby '25 at rush@bsudelts. org or (317) 384-3483. The membership is always welcoming to our more "seasoned" alumni, and recent grads too! "During my first tour of the house, I met a diverse group of friendly and engaging brothers. I felt at home immediately," he says. The support of the other members continued to influence Logan over the course of his college career and beyond. "It has stuck with me. I met a lot of amazing people and gained invaluable experiences that ended up having a huge impact on my life." Logan was drawn to Epsilon Mu by the closeness of the brothers, their level of campus engagement, and the involvement of the alumni. He decided to support the chapter by taking on leadership roles, serving as academic chairman in 2013 and chapter president in 2014. In 2015, Logan earned a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Ball State. Following graduation, and as a result of meeting other brothers in the fraternity who joined the service, he spent the next year training to become an aircraft mechanic in the Air National Guard at the 122nd Fighter Wing in Fort Wayne, Indiana. "With military benefits and other scholarships, I attended Michigan State University law school for the next three and a half years," he shares. "I graduated a semester late, in the fall of 2019, because I deployed to Afghanistan halfway through law school." Following the bar exam, Logan started his career as an attorney at Carson LLP. He credits Delta Tau Delta for his career path: "As a freshman, I wanted to major in computer technology," he says. "But then I met some (Continued on page 2)
