Putting Together the Pieces Jillian Timberlake '02 Discusses New Book, Streams of Gold B E T A C H I N E W S L E T T E R O F K A P P A K A P P A G A M M A S P R I N G 2 0 2 3 Seniors Sydney Meek '19, Lizzie Pipponen '19, Caroline Slicer '19, Macy Nigh '19, Julia Loeb '19, Kelly Whitmore '21, and Katie Gardipee '19 after the Kappa senior banquet. C oming to the University of Kentucky from an all-girls high school, Jillian Timberlake '02 knew the benefits of being a part of a strong community of women. During pledge week, she met the kind and amiable women of Kappa Kappa Gamma and found her community for the next chapter of her life. Jillian has fond memories from her time in Beta Chi, including participating in Greek Sing. "I love how a philanthropic cause can bring people together," she said. "Greek Sing was always energizing and inspiring, merging creativity with a meaningful cause in a fun and unique way." Jillian also remembers serving as house chairman and academic chairman, which helped her develop leadership and communication skills that she still uses today. "These leadership positions cultivated organizational habits and interpersonal skills that I have used as a wife, mother, speech therapist, and now, as an author and a speaker," she shared. Jillian began her career in speech-language pathology, which she loved, but in her late thirties, she discovered a love for writing when she began working on a private project. That project became her first book, Streams of Gold, which she recently published. The book explores piecing together memories from the past to discover lessons in the present. "I share my journey of the unattainable pursuit of perfection and searching for beauty amidst brokenness," Jillian shared. "Streams of Gold is the story of surrendering our ideal for something better and finding restoration in unexpected ways." Her book won first place in the 2023 Firebird Book Awards in the "Mental and Spiritual Health" and "Christian Memoir" categories. Keep Connected with Kappa STOP BY THE HOUSE, GET INVOLVED, AND FOLLOW US! (Continued on page 3) H ello, Kappa sisters! It is hard to believe that we are already wrapping up another school year at 238 E. Maxwell! This semester, the chapter again extended membership to a group of bright young women via spring recruitment. Additionally, with the great weather and all the fun that Lexington has to offer in the spring, they were able to host a Dad's Day and Mother's Day event at the house in April. The chapter does a great job of sharing what they are up to on social media. Make sure that you are following them on your preferred social media platform to see the great events they host at the house and participate in on campus. We are so grateful to have a facility that allows the chapter to host events like this and gather as a group. Have you seen the house since the rebuild? I know several of you have, and it is always great to welcome sisters. Make sure to stop by on your next trip to Lexington if you haven't already. We continue looking at how to make living improvements to the house and maintain our home for future chapters. Lastly, if you are looking for a way to volunteer and give back to the house and Kappa, consider joining the House Board. It is a great opportunity to work with other alumnae to ensure the future of the Beta Chi house stays strong. The board meets monthly, in person and virtually, to run the business of the house. This is also a great way to stay tangentially plugged into chapter as well. If you are interested in joining the board, please reach out to House Board President Bri Triplitt '97 via email at bri570b@yahoo. com. We are always looking for members with fresh ideas to continue making Beta Chi the home we all know and love. Over the summer, the House Board will work to get the house ready for another great school year and outstanding recruitment. We look forward to sharing more details about what we accomplish in the fall. Loyally, Katti Bowling Nash '02 katti.nash@gmail.com
