April 9 - 15, 2023 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON APPLE TV+ "The Last Thing He Told Me" Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Laura Dave, the new, seven-part limited se- ries, "The Last Thing He Told Me," follows the journey of a mother and stepdaughter as they are brought together by ter- rifying circumstances. The se- ries premieres its first two epi- sodes Friday, April 14, with epi- sodes airing weekly on Fridays thereafter. "The Last Thing He Told Me" stars Jennifer Garner ("Alias") as Hannah, a woman whose life is upended when her husband, Owen (Nikolaj Coster- Waldau, "Game of Thrones"), mysteriously goes missing. Left behind with nothing but a note to protect her 16-year-old step- daughter, Bailey (Angourie Rice, "Mare of Easttown"), who wants nothing to do with her, the pair slowly grow closer as they work to find out what really happened to Owen. Adapted for the screen by Dave, the series is executive produced by Hello Sunshine's Reese Witherspoon ("Wild," 2014) and Lauren Neustadter ("Little Fires Everywhere"). "The Last Thing He Told Me" also stars Aisha Tyler ("Criminal Minds"), Augusto Aguilera ("Too Old to Die Young"), Geoff Stults ("Guilty Party") and John Harlan Kim ("9-1-1"). WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die" (2023) The epic saga of "The Last King- dom" wraps up with the follow- up film, "The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die," when it premieres on Netflix Friday, April 14. Based on the Saxon Sto- ries series of novels by Bernard Cornwell, "The Last Kingdom" is set in England in the first cen- tury, as a century-long war has raged through the land between its inhabitants and the Danish invaders, with a tentative peace settled between nearly everyone — except Lord Uhtred of Beb- banburg (Alexander Dreymon, "American Horror Story"), rul- ing over Northumbria, who has yet to pledge his land to the throne. But, when King Edward (Timothy Innes, "Harlots") dies, the peace is threatened once again as his two potential heirs, Aethelstan (Harry Gilby, "Tolk- ien," 2019) and Aelfweard (Ewan Horrocks, "Domina"), battle to claim the crown. Faced with dif- ficult decisions about the future of the country, Uhtred and his cohort embark on a journey across the country in the hopes of uniting England at last. WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Am I Being Unreasonable?" - Season 1 The hit BBC comedy thriller se- ries "Am I Being Unreasonable?" makes its leap across the pond and onto Hulu Tuesday, April 11. Daisy May Cooper ("This Coun- try") stars as Nic, who is griev- ing a loss she can't share with anyone else while stuck in a de- pressing marriage, with only her son, Ollie (Lenny Rush, "Apple Tree House"), keeping her go- ing. But when she finds a kin- dred spirit in Jen (Selin Hizli, "Grantchester"), a new arrival to town, Nic soon finds her dark secret starting to bubble up. Cre- ated and written by stars Cooper and Hizli, "Am I Being Unrea- sonable?" is directed by Jonny Campbell ("Informer"). "Am I Being Unreasonable?" is executive produced by Cooper and Hizli, Campbell, Jack Thorne ("His Dark Materials"), Shane Allen ("Staged") and Kate Daughton ("The Outlaws") for Boffola Pic- tures, Faith Penhale ("Gentle- man Jack") for Lookout Point and Tanya Qureshi ("I May De- stroy You") for BBC. 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards - Special Hulu plays host to the 34th An- nual GLAAD Media Awards for the third consecutive year when the event streams Wednesday, April 12. Since it was first estab- lished in 1990, each year the GLAAD Media Awards honor media across the industry for fair, accurate and inclusive rep- resentations of the LGBTQ+ community, people and issues. Filmed in Los Angeles at the end of March, this year's ceremony celebrates all of the achieve- ments from the last year in style, with performances by "Girl of My Dreams" singer FLETCHER and Canada-based South Afri- can country singer Orville Peck ("Bronco"), both of whom are nominated for outstanding mu- sic artist. Recognizing artists from all branches of the enter- tainment industry, the event's nearly 40 categories include awards for film, television, docu- mentary features, music, theater, children and family program- ming, podcasts, comics, video games, journalism, variety and reality shows, print media, Span- ish-language programming and more. WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "Rennervations" - Season 1 Embracing his lifelong passion for giving back, actor Jeremy Renner ("Hawkeye") is helping to better communities around the world in the new four-part series "Rennervations," which makes its Disney+ premiere Wednesday, April 12. Reimagin- ing unique, purpose-built vehi- cles to meet a community's par- ticular needs, the series goes be- hind the scenes as Renner, a con- struction veteran, his best friend and business partner, Rory Mil- likin, and an all-star construc- tion crew travel the globe hop- ing to make life a little easier ev- erywhere they go. Throughout the series, the team turns a tour bus into a mobile music studio, a delivery truck into a mobile wa- ter treatment facility, a shuttle bus into a mobile recreation center, and a city bus into a mo- bile dance studio, while special celebrity guests Anthony Mack- ie ("The Falcon and the Winter Soldier"), Vanessa Hudgens ("Tick, Tick… Boom!" 2021), Anil Kapoor ("Slumdog Million- aire," 2008) and Sebastián Yatra ("Encanto," 2021) join in to help out along the way.
