T22 WHATS UP! April 9 - 15, 2023 The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Yesterday [Mar. 14], a Russian fighter jet collided with a U.S. drone. Even worse, after the col- lision, the Russian plane didn't even leave a note on the wind- shield. Now our insurance is gonna go up. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Yesterday [Mar. 12] was Selec- tion Sunday, where they an- nounce the 68 teams in this year's March Madness tourna- ment. Yep, that's exciting. That's right. It starts at 68, then 32, then eventually down to one — just like the number of U.S. banks. Tonight [Mar. 14], President Biden attended a big Democrat- ic fundraiser in Las Vegas. Yep, not really the best timing for Biden. Yesterday, he assured us the banking system is safe, and 24 hours later, he rolled up in Ve- gas. He's like, "Putting it all on black." Anyway, long story short, Caesars Palace now owns Rhode Island. Aaron Rodgers said that next season, it is his intention to play for the New York Jets. But let's not get too excited — it was also my intention to go to Harvard, it just didn't happen. Yep, Aaron Rodgers could be coming to New York. Jets fans were like, "Wait, is this what happiness feels like? I like it." Unfortunate- ly, the Jets are owned by Johnson & Johnson, which means Rodg- ers will only be 66% effective. Jimmy Kimmel Live! According to the FBI, Americans lost $10.3 billion on internet scams last year, and that doesn't even count those Trump digital trading cards. There are all kinds of scams going on. One guy — this is a crazy story — spent all his money on what he thought was a thriving online business. Turned out to be Twitter; his name was Elon Musk. Today [Mar. 15] marks three years since the first COVID lockdown. It was three years ago. Remember we were elbow- bumping and working the ATM with our feet? Well, I guess it's gone because President Biden is now in Las Vegas, of all places. He had a busy schedule today. He met with Democrats to dis- cuss the Inflation Reduction Act, he gave a speech at UNLV about prescription drug prices, and to- night, he's wrapping things up with a stop at the Peppermint Hippo to make it rain. Late Night With Seth Meyers President Biden spoke this morning [Mar. 13] about Friday's collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and reassured Americans the country's financial system is safe. But remember, this is a guy whose whole financial system is definitely a coffee can on a high shelf. "See, the thing is, they nev- er look up there." That's right, President Biden re- assured Americans the coun- try's financial system is safe. OK, I think the fact that you're talk- ing about a bank collapse proves it isn't — that's like going to a fu- neral and giving a eulogy about how Nana's going to be fine. President Biden signed an exec- utive order today [Mar. 14] that increases background checks on gun purchases. From now on, gun dealers are gonna ask your first and last name. President Biden spoke today [Mar. 15] in Las Vegas about health care. Oh, you mean that place where everyone smokes indoors and it's cool to have 7 a.m. cocktails as long as you haven't been to sleep yet? Yeah. Sure, health care in Vegas is a major priority. The Late Late Show With James Corden The Academy [Awards] tried to get people to learn more by flashing scannable QR codes on the screen. They even did it after the in memoriam section. Now, when you scan the QR code, you only have to watch two tasteful Dr. Pepper ads before seeing who else died last year. With new concerns about Credit Suisse being the next bank to fall, the bank crisis might be heading over to Europe. You know it's just going to backpack around, sleep in some hostels, see the sights ... it's a gap year, is what it is. LATE LAUGHS BY CAROLINE COLLACUTT TV Media Exit stage left: Entrepreneur, entertainer and queen of the "smize," Tyra Banks announced she will not be returning for Sea- son 32 of the long-running reali- ty show "Dancing with the Stars." Banks initially joined the cast ahead of Season 29, replacing Tom Bergeron and Erin An- drews and serving as the lone host for two seasons. Alfonso Ri- beiro ("America's Funniest Home Videos") joined as co- host for Season 31, the show's first on streamer Disney+. Ri- beiro is staying put for the up- coming season, but Banks opted to leave in order to focus on her other businesses and producing efforts. Speaking to TMZ, Banks said, "I think it's time to graduate from the dance floor to the stock market floor … from the ball- room to the boardroom. I'm an entrepreneur at heart … I think my heart, my soul, is into my business, it's also into producing new TV." Just a few days after Banks' big announcement, Variety broke the news that former "Dancing With the Stars" pro Julianne Hough (and sister to "DWTS" judge Derek Hough) has been tapped to serve as co-host along- side Ribeiro. She's expected to assume Ribeiro's previous role as the post-performance inter- viewer. In a post on her Instagram (@JulesHough), Hough wrote: "It is such an honor to be rejoin- ing 'Dancing with the Stars' as co-host. The show holds such a special place in my heart from the many years and different roles I have had the privilege of being a part of. The incredible team that brings the ballroom to life every night has been my family for the past 17 years. I am so excited to reunite with Alfon- so, Carrie Ann [Inaba], Bruno [Tonioli], Derek [Hough], the unbelievably talented pros, and the amazing cast on the dance floor. The energy is magnetic ev- ery time you step foot in to the ballroom and I can't wait to feel it again — and of course to share it all with the absolute best and most loyal fans — for another exciting season." Hello Hammond: "The Great British Bake Off" — or "The Great British Baking Show," as it's known here — has an all-new host. For the upcoming season, longtime British TV presenter Alison Hammond is set to join host Noel Fielding and judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, replacing Matt Lucas and be- coming the show's sixth perma- nent host. Hammond confirmed the news on social media while showcasing her own baking skills. In the video, Hammond shows off a cake made to look like the classic "Bake-Off" tent, along with fondant figures of Fielding, Hollywood, Leith and herself. In a voiceover, she jok- ingly pretends to be a reporter, asking her fondant counterpart for a comment. The cake version of Hammond responds: "Well do you know what? I'm just ab- solutely thrilled. I'm going to be meeting the bakers very soon. I'm joining 'The Great British Bake Off.' I'm so very excited." For the past two decades, Hammond has been a presenter on ITV's "This Morning," a U.K.-based morning show, where she became known for her viral celebrity interviews. She first rose to fame in the Brit- ish version of "Big Brother" in 2002; since then, Hammond has slipped into many reality TV shows, such as "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!," "Strictly Come Dancing," "Celebrity MasterChef," and even the ce- lebrity edition of "The Great British Bake Off." When asked about this newest addition to the show, Channel 4's chief content officer, Ian Katz, said: "Alison is much loved, effortlessly funny and the owner of the best laugh in Britain. She was a huge hit when she ap- peared on 'Celebrity Bake Off,' and we're thrilled to have her back in the tent." Lights, camera, Lovato: Ac- tor/singer-songwriter Demi Lo- vato will be directing her first feature film for Hulu and tack- ling a topic close to home. The film, currently titled "Child Star," is set to be directed both by Lovato and Nicola Marsh ("Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story," 2022). According to a news release, the feature- length documentary aims to "deconstruct the highs and lows of growing up in the spotlight through the lens of some of the world's most famous former child stars, including Lovato," who has been acting since she was 10. Lovato, who uses both "they" and "she" pronouns, first ap- peared in the PBS show "Barney & Friends," and in 2008, she starred in the Disney Channel original movie "Camp Rock." Disney then offered Lovato the titular role in the TV show "Son- ny with a Chance," which first aired in 2009. She has been openly critical of her experienc- es as a child star, some of which were detailed in the 2021 docu- series "Dancing With the Devil." As for "Child Star," the press release explained that "the film will reach beyond the traditional narratives seen in op-eds and tabloids to consider the chang- ing nature of growing up in an increasingly connected and pub- lic world." Many former child stars are set to be interviewed, though the names of other par- ticipants have yet to be released. Tyra Banks is exiting "Dancing With the Stars" STARS ON SCREEN
