T4 WHATS UP! April 9 - 15, 2023 REAL TV BY CAROLINE COLLACUTT TV Media Historical heroes: Venture into the past with actor Kit Harington as he learns of his grandparents' experiences liv- ing through World War II in the heartwarming season pre- miere of "My Grandparents' War," airing Tuesday, April 11, on PBS. Harington, best known for his eight-season run playing Jon Snow in "Game of Thrones," hosts this first epi- sode of Season 2, exploring his family's wartime history on both the maternal and paternal sides. Harington finds that his grandfather, John Harington, served in Naval Intelligence alongside author Ian Flem- ming, the creator of the iconic James Bond character. John went on to run one of the most controversial spying opera- tions of the 20th century, and Harington learns that his grandfather might even be the inspiration for Flemming's greatest work. Perhaps even more shock- ing? When John met Lavender, Harington's paternal grand- mother, who was herself an in- telligence officer, the two wound up in a whirlwind ro- mance and married within a matter of days. On his maternal side, Har- ington learns of Mick and Pip- pa Catesby – an artillery offi- cer and a nurse who met and fell in love during the Blitz, just before Mick was sent to fight in Italy. He hears ac- counts of Mick's life-changing experience during the Battle of Monte Cassino, a time that haunts Harington's grandfa- ther even now. "I'm so proud of all four of my grandparents," Harington told PBS. "Across the globe, they put their lives on the line. … And they did it for a greater good for their country and for a cause." For the Haringtons, it's a sto- ry of love and loss, but "My Grandparents' War" continues Season 2 with a cast of equally fascinating guests, ranging from Keira Knightley ("Pride & Prejudice," 2005) to Toby Jones ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," 2011). Watch the first epi- sode on PBS, Tuesday, April 11, for a story that spans coun- tries, decades and generations. All aboard: Capt. Glenn Shepherd and his crew set sail yet again on the Ionian Sea, navigating crystal-clear waters and tidal waves of drama in an all-new season of "Below Deck Sailing Yacht," premiering Monday, April 10, on Bravo. Parties, "boatmances" and drama unfold aboard the grand Parsifal III, staffed by faces both old and new. Sailing with Capt. Shepherd are the "OG" crew: Chief Stew Daisy Kelli- her, first mate Gary King and engineer Colin MacRae, along with some brand-new ship- mates: chef Ileisha Dell from Australia, stews Lucy Ed- munds (Wales) and Mads Her- rera (Florida), and deckhands Chase Lemacks (South Caroli- na) and Alex Propson (Flori- da). A news release for Season 4 promises that "two overlap- ping love triangles further complicate the dynamics on board, and a shocking hookup puts Colin, Daisy and Gary's friendship in jeopardy." It con- tinues: "On deck, strong per- sonalities collide, and a power struggle results in a near muti- ny, as Gary clashes with his new, overconfident deckhand, Chase." This season, the "yachties" are ready to work hard and play even harder, but it seems Capt. Shepherd has plans of his own. "Capt. Glenn realizes that his laid-back leadership style has allowed his crew to become too comfortable and starts taking charge of quality control in the interior depart- ment, much to Daisy's dismay," the news release claims. Either way, with a "near col- lision, fire, crew rebellion, gruesome guest injury and two different potentially season- ending engine failures," this is sure to be the most gasp-wor- thy season of "Below Deck" yet. "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" Season 4 premieres Monday, April 10, on Bravo, following an all-day marathon of Season 3. Backyard brawls: Tues- days are about to get a lot more "personal," with all-new sea- sons of "Neighborhood Wars" and "Road Wars" premiering Tuesday, April 11, on A&E. With two new episodes each, spend your night diving deep into live footage of unexpected events and emotionally charged exchanges. Starting with "Neighbor- hood Wars," viewers watch as a homeowner deals with a mail-munching, nudist neigh- bor who just won't get off his lawn. Then, a package thief is caught on camera and a movie- goer won't stop checking their phone, interrupting others. During the second episode, a woman in Atlanta wakes the entire neighborhood in the process of tossing out her boy- friend, and a swindler from New Jersey learns that you never mess with Grandma. Tailgating the "Neighbor- hood" premiere is the fast and furious start of "Road Wars," Season 2. Episode 1 lands us in Santa Clarita, California, where a motorcyclist kicks a car and sets off a chain reac- tion that rolls down the high- way. Across the country in New York City, a bicyclist and a driver have a heated confron- tation over a blockade in the bike lane. The evening con- cludes with a second new epi- sode of "Road Wars," where police officers are thrown by a pair of speeding vehicles, and a plane is forced to make an emergency landing. Dive into these back-to-back premieres, in which, according to IMDB, viewers are taken "into the homes and backyards of neighbors across the coun- try." These all-too-real stories feature footage from "cell- phones, drones, home security cameras and more," and are sure to leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. Catch the premieres of both "Neighbor- hood Wars" and "Road Wars" when they air Tuesday, April 11, on A&E. Kit Harrington in "My Grandparents' War"
