I f you're just discovering Englewood for the first time, there are some things you should know. This also goes for those who've been here before and are re- discovering our little slice of paradise. The Englewood you see today – and all its neighborhoods and communities – isn't the same as it was a year ago – or ever, for that matter. People will tell you it's always changing. This is Florida, after all, and while Englewood somehow maintains it's small, laid-back beach town feel, there's always something new happening. But this past year has been different, with some changes that were planned and some that were unexpected. The planned changes include the completion of the West Dearborn Street projects that have transformed the center of town. There have been some other changes in the community, courtesy of a storm named Ian who did his best to mess with our lovely home. (This is Florida, after all.) But for all that bluster, the community is bouncing back in a big way. Businesses, restaurants and civic organizations everywhere are up and running. The future looks great. If you haven't been there for awhile, take a drive or bike ride around town. Check out Dearborn Street. Find a place to park and take a stroll. Shop in some of the wonderful, unique stores. Choose a place for breakfast, lunch or dinner, whatever is appropriate for the time of day. Or maybe get a cup of coffee, a cool ice cream treat or a glass of wine. Before long, you may be taking part in an always changing community. Discover Englewood Or slice padise emerges from year of changes By Chris Porter | Editor Discover Englewood 2023 6
