Orchestra fans and music lovers, gather up, you definitely don't want to miss this up and coming stellar event. e Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra will present "One Song" on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Huff Concert Hall which is at Methodist University. Guests will be allowed in the venue beginning at 6:30 and the event will begin at 7:30 p.m. e Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1956 and is a professional orches- tra whose mission is to educate, entertain and inspire the citizens of Fayetteville, and surround- ing counties. "One Song" is the Symphony's fifth concert in their seven-concert series this season. e Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra also has many free events and performances. eir mission to educate, entertain and inspire the community will be on full display with our annual side-by-side concert, where the Fayetteville Symphony Youth Orchestra performs alongside our world class musicians. is exciting and collaborative program will feature a new work from North Carolina com- poser, Andrew Harris, titled "e Stars Above," according to Meghan Woolbright, Marketing and Office Manager of e Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra Also highlighted on this program are the 2021 Harlan Duenow Young Artist Concerto Competi- tion Winners, Gavin Hardy and Zirui Yin. Yin will perform Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 3" and Hardy will perform Bottesini's "Concerto No. 2" for double bass, said Woolbright. Gavin Hardy is a high school double bassist from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He be- gan playing the double bass at the age of 12. He started his journey as a string musician playing the violin and cello, but after hearing the warm, resonant and powerful sound of the double bass, he was hooked. After playing the national anthem on the double bass before a basketball game in 8th grade, the video went viral, and through this, he was connected to professor Paul Sharpe at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. After the first lesson with Sharpe, all of his les- sons were over Zoom due to COVID precautions. Nevertheless, he recorded a successful audition tape for the National Youth Orchestra's NYO2 ensemble, and attended there this past summer. Zirui Yin started playing the piano at the age of 6. He grew up in Shanghai, China, and is current- ly a first-year student at Duke University, poten- tially majoring in Computer Science and Music. He is now a student of Professor Ieva Jokubaviciute.
