2 UCW JANUARY 4 - 10, 2023 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM JANUARY 6 VINTAGE VIBES ARTS COUNCIL OF FAYETTEVILLE Vintage Vibes is a collective of artworks by artist Andrew "Artlife Drew" Brooks. These large-scale works of art range from 36x48" canvas and vary in the format of 4k video. This show will feature 25 large scales, acrylic and oil pin paintings on canvas. Ranging from 36x48" to 48x56" in size. Vintage Vibes will be focused around the centerpiece of the show "What Would Picasso Do?" a short film about an artist who sells his first million-dollar painting. The movie follows the years-long journey of Dwayne as he sells his first piece of art that launched his painting career. The movie was directed by Brooks and stars Mehki Adams, Ariel Paige, Nayjah Mickens and Ron Kelly. Following the movie will be a Question and Answer panel with the cast of the movie and a live performance from Nayjah M. The gal- lery will be on display through Jan. 21. JANUARY 7 LATIN NIGHT ARTS COUNCIL OF FAYETTEVILLE Enjoy a night out at the Arts Council with this Latin Night social. Start to socialize at 9 p.m. and then the Salsa class starts at 10 p.m. The Salsa class is being taught by Fayetteville Latin Dance LLC. DJ SIIX will keep the music going throughout the night. Latin night will go into the early hours of the next day. There is a $10 entry fee. JANUARY 12 COMEDY & COCKTAILS CHURCH ENTERTAINMENT LOUNGE Comedy & Cocktails, in the Church Entertainment Lounge, is scheduled for every Thursday night with dif- ferent nationally touring stand-up comedian headliners. The headliners for Jan. 12 are David Zasloff and Jason Scholder. A open mic comedy pre-show starts at 7:30 p.m. while the main show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. HUMAN TRAFFICKING FORUM KIWANIS RECREATION CENTER The Child Advocacy Center will have four panelists joining them who come from different professional back- grounds and who will help to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking in our community. There will be a time during the evening that questions can be submitted to be considered for the panelists to answer. Displays from different agen- cies who assist trafficked victims will be in attendance with resources. This free forum starts at 6:30 p.m. JANUARY 19 SETH'S WISH NEW YEAR FESTIVAL 204 SOUTH REILLY ROAD Kick-off 2023 with Seth's Wish at their New Year Festival. Come celebrate with them and tons of local vendors as you shop until you drop, eat some amazing food, and get the kids out of the house to enjoy fun activities! They host this awesome event on the second Saturday of every month with a different theme, which is turning into a great event. The vendor fee goes to help support the Seth's Wish Day Center's Food Pantry. JANUARY 14 JANUARY 7 THE 2023 DETOUR SLAM THE SWEET PALETTE This is a special edition of Art Meets Life. At this slam, the Detour Slam Team will be deciding who will be a part of the team who will represent Fayetteville at the 2023 Southern Fried Poetry Festival in Knoxville, TN, in June. For poets looking to compete, here are the rules: each poem must be of the poet's own construction, each poet gets three minutes (plus a ten- second grace period) to read one poem and the poet may not use props, costumes or musical instruments; Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the slam starts at 8:30 p.m. It is a $10 fee to compete. Audience members can watch for free, but donations are strongly encouraged. All proceeds go towards the Detour Slam Team. JANUARY 10 DEPLOYED LOVE COFFEE MEET UP FORT BRAGG Get your usual or try something new. The conversation and crowd won't be the same, and it will be a fun time. Relax and unwind and find your tribe with De- ployed Love. Deployed Love is a com- munity run by volunteers to reach out and bring together military families for when their loved ones are deployed overseas. Anyone is welcome to the coffee meet-up. The meetup starts at 9:30 a.m. The coffee shop this time is at the Starbucks near the North Commissary. JANUARY 14 - 15 This family-oriented, fun-filled event offers guests the opportunity to learn about animals not normally seen in local pet stores. Breeder-vendors are always willing to teach in their field of herpetology. Guests can also shop for a new family pet among the hundreds of reptiles, am- phibians, invertebrates, spiders, and small exotic animals. Repticon Fayetteville is also the perfect place for them to get merchandise, cages, supplies, and both live and frozen feeders, as well as to get expert advice about caring for their new household member. Guests can bring up to two animals inside the event. Tickets range from $6 to $15 and can be bought online at https://repticon.com/tickets/. Active Duty Military, First Responders, and Teachers with IDs get in for free. On Saturday, they will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sunday, they will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. REPTICON FAYETTEVILLE CROWN COMPLEX
