The documentary summarizes the vast array of African American language used in performance styles and genres that include musical traditions (blues, spirituals, hip hop), spoken genres (spoken word, preaching), and rituals (the dozens). Interviews with performers and other experts illustrate ways in which the Black experience and the use of African American language are essential to these creative forms of expression. There will be a spoken word performance by Isaiah Ellsberry of the Detour Slam Team, followed by the showing of the documentary. Afterward, there will be a brief Q&A with spoken word artist El'Ja Bowens and producer/Emmy Award winner Danica Cullian moderated by Val Applewhite. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29 SPOOKY SKATETACULAR CLELAND SKATING RINK 11 a.m. Sustainable Sandhills is presenting the Sandhills Drive Electric Car Show and Test Ride for all car enthusiasts. The event will feature a variety of opportunities for drivers to learn about electric vehicle options in the region. Visitors can test drive electric vehicles from local dealerships, enjoy a Kids Zone with solar cars and other fun activities, chat with electric vehicle and alternative transportation advocacy groups, visit the electric vehicle show featuring Tesla and other privately owned models, enjoy delicious eats from local food trucks, and enter to win raffles. HALLOWEEN TAILGATE COOK-OFF MENDOZA PARK, SPRING LAKE 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. Foodtruck Warz is bringing you another ac- tion packed event with a twist and a brand new layout. This event will take place on the first field by the road. Just look for the orange balloons and costumes. On top of live music by DJ Kuttah P, there will also be raffles, face painting, and starting at 6 p.m., there will be a haunted trunk or treat event. All of the food will be judged and one of the judging criteria will be how spooky the food looks. A haunted house and the trunk or treat starts at 6 p.m. "ON THE HOMEFRONT" EXHIBIT CAPE FEAR MUSEUM 10 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This special exhibit "Heroes Homecoming: On the Homefront," will explore the heroes at home through thematic panels including Honor, Bravery, Courage, and Sac- rifice. Discover how families and civilians have worked to support the military by focusing energy at home. The exhibit will be on display on the second floor of the Museum of the Cape Fear throughout November. Museum hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1 THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27 ESCAPE ROOM FORT BRAGG BOSS BUILDING 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do you have what it takes to escape a spooky Halloween-themed escape room in time? If so, get your team together and experience a fun-filled evening with the BOSS Team and try your best to escape! This live escape game adventure will be the spooktacular highlight of your week. The BOSS Building is being turned into an escape room with clues and hints; will you be able to find them? This free event is open to everyone ages 12 years and older. 6:30 p.m. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28 ZOMBIE WALK DOWNTOWN FAYETTEVILLE 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. We hoped all was well….apparently, we were DEAD wrong. The undead of Fayetteville are coming back to celebrate the 12th Annual Zombie Walk and Prom. This is a free undead family-friendly event. Come to downtown Fayetteville in all your best zombie costumes. The Paul Mitchell School of Fayetteville will be face painting during the Zombie Pre - -Party. Zombies will make their way down Hay Street to Person Street. Food trucks, vendors, artists and performers will be at the event. ELECTRIC CAR SHOW HONEYCUTT PARK 6:30 p.m. Join Cleland Ice & Inline Skating Rinks for their on-ice Halloween party for all ages. This holiday skating party is full of fun and excitement and all things Halloween! Special ice Halloween performance fol- lowed by ice skating and on-ice games to include limbo, relay race, cake skate and obstacle course. Outside of the rink, there will be Halloween beverages and cotton candy. This event is open to the public and is for all ages. There is a $5 fee at the door. For more information, call 910-396-5127. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28 MOVIE NIGHT ON THE LAWN DIRTBAG ALES 6:30 p.m. Bring your chairs and blankets and set up on our lawn for a family friendly movie night! This event is sponsored by The Rick Her- rema Foundation. A $10 donation per family at gate is encouraged and appreciated. The double feature will include "Beetle- juice" and "Hocus Pocus." The movie event starts at sundown!
