"College years represent a time period where we grow and change," Dan Pickett '80 said. "We make new friends, we begin thinking about careers, we develop passions about our alma mater. Who doesn't watch an Ohio State football game and think about the Saturday morning walk to the stadium and watching the game from the Beta block?" Dan's introduction to Theta Delta came at an early age from his father, Dick Pickett '48. Nonetheless, he gave multiple fraternities a shot the summer before his freshman year at OSU. He received several bids and didn't want to decide too quickly—then he arrived at Beta. "I remember saying to my dad, 'There is something different about Beta.' He knew then and there that I understood!" Dan and his brothers worked hard at Ohio State, but they also knew how to have fun. "Whether it was living in the house my sophomore year, going to parties, or anticipating a tailgate— everything about the Beta experience screamed fun." Greek life also helped Dan meet his future wife, Mary (Kappa Kappa Gamma '81), with whom he recently celebrated 41 wonderful years of marriage. What started in the fall of 2014, however, is now complete; the campaign is ending with $3,794,400 pledged and $3,622,200 collected to date. We are working on a plaque for the Chapter House to honor all those who gave their hard-earned dollars to make this happen. While we have almost closed the books on the campaign and are ensuring that every name that should be included is listed, there is still time to get your name added to the plaque or moved to a different donor level! During the campaign, the Alumni Association Board decided to suspend requests for annual dues, as we felt that it would conflict with the ask for capital donations. Now, with the campaign effectively over, we are once again asking for your annual dues. These payments help support our Alumni Association newsletters and email communications, subsidize our annual Spring Roundup, and provide support for the Chapter in a number of additional ways. There are two levels of giving to the Alumni Association. A dues payment of $100 provides entry into the Knox Club, while a payment of $250 gets you into the Wooglin Club. While these are the levels that we feel are appropriate, any contribution would be most welcomed! These dollars will allow the Alumni Association to keep our alumni up to date on what is happening at 165 E. 15th Avenue, help to enrich the fraternal experience of the Chapter membership, and schedule alumni and Chapter events (such as a planned golf outing for the spring of 2023). Lastly, if you would like to be part of a rewarding and worthwhile group that gets to spend time with our collegians, we always have room on the Alumni Association or Chapter Advisory Board! We have a new Chapter Advisor in former President Dan Grainger '16, who has assembled a great group of advisors— but we can always use more hands and minds to help the Chapter. Please contact Dan at danieltgrainger@gmail.com if you are interested. If you would like to be a part of the Alumni Association, contact me. We hope that you will stop by the Chapter House anytime that you are in Columbus! It is a wonderful home to our undergraduate Chapter and a great showplace for Beta at The Ohio State University.
