August 28 - September 3, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "The Patient" Prepare yourself to deal with the past when the new FX thriller "The Patient" pre- mieres Tuesday, Aug. 30, on Hulu. Starring Steve Carell ("The Office") as therapist Alan Strauss, this 10-episode miniseries follows the wid- owed doctor as he is held cap- tive by his patient, Sam Fortner (played by Domhnall Gleeson, "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens," 2015). Sam, who reveals himself to be a se- rial killer, comes to Alan with the most unusual demand of his career: help him curb his homicidal urges. As Alan at- tempts to unwind Sam's dis- turbed mind and stop him from killing again, he grapples with Sam's refusal to address some critical topics while dealing with his own repressed trou- bles. Throughout the course of the series, Alan learns not only how deeply disturbed his pa- tient is, but how much work he needs to do in his own life. From FX Productions, the se- ries is executive produced by Carell, Caroline Moore ("Cedar Cove"), Victor Hsu ("Transpar- ent") and Joseph Weisberg, Chris Long and Joel Fields of "The Americans." Written by Fields and Weisberg, "The Pa- tient" also stars David Alan Grier ("Joe Pickett"), Linda Emond ("Lodge 49"), Laura Ni- emi ("This Is Us"), Alex Rich ("Genius"), Amy Handelman ("Friend Zone: The Series") and Andrew Leeds ("Zoey's Ex- traordinary Playlist"). WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "I Came By" The new British crime thriller "I Came By" premieres on Net- flix Wednesday, Aug. 31. Young, determined and with a point to prove, rebellious graffiti artists Toby (George MacKay, "Mu- nich: The Edge of War," 2021) and Jay (Percelle Ascott, "The Innocents") target the homes of London's wealthy elite, breaking into the properties be- fore marking them with the tag "I Came By." But, one fateful night, Toby gets in over his head when he breaks into the home of former High Court Judge Sir Hector Blake (Hugh Bonneville, "Downton Abbey") and accidentally uncovers a dark secret. With Blake willing to do whatever it takes to keep is secret under wraps, Toby is led on a terrifying game of cat and mouse across London, on a journey that endangers both himself and those closest to him. Co-written by Babak An- vari ("Wounds," 2019) and Namsi Khan ("The Midwich Cuckoos"), "I Came By" is di- rected by Anvari and executive produced by Daniel Battsek ("Last Night in Soho," 2021), Nate Bolotin ("Mandy," 2018), Ollie Madden ("The Father," 2020), Yariv Milchan ("The Northman," 2022), Michael Schaefer ("The Martian," 2015) and Aram Terzakian ("Stow- away," 2021). The film's cast is rounded out by Kelly Macdon- ald ("No Country For Old Men," 2007), Varada Sethu ("Jurassic World Dominion," 2022), Antonio Aakeel ("Slow Horses"), Peter Bramhill ("Flowers in the Attic: The Ori- gin"), Amerjit Deu ("Dumbo," 2019), Gabriel Bisset-Smith ("Thrush," 2010), Paddy Wal- lace ("The Ipcress File") and Kitty Lovett ("Calibre," 2018). WHAT'S NEW ON AMC+ "Pantheon" - Season 1 Dive into the thrilling new adult animated series "Panthe- on" when it premieres on AMC+ Thursday, Sept. 1 (epi- sodes airing weekly thereafter on the streamer). Making its debut as AMC Networks' first traditionally animated series, this sci-fi drama, based on a collection of short stories by award-winning author Ken Liu, centers on a bullied teen named Maddie (voiced by Katie Chang, "The Outcasts," 2017). As she tries to navigate her less-than-ideal teen years, Ka- tie begins to receive mysterious help from a stranger online, who she soon discovers is her recently deceased father, David (Daniel Day Kim, "Hawaii Five- 0"), whose consciousness has been uploaded to the cloud. Da- vid may be the first to have been uploaded, but he won't be the last, as a global conspiracy begins to unfold. Focusing on family and speculating on the limits of technology, "'Panthe- on' challenges what it means to be human" (per AMC). Created for the screen by writer, show- runner and executive producer Craig Silverstein ("Nikita"), "Pantheon" is co-executive produced by Michael Taylor ("Into the Badlands") and Tali K. Austin ("House of Lies"), both of whom are also writers for the series. The show's voice cast is rounded out by Paul Dano ("Escape at Dannemora") as Caspian, Rosemarie DeWitt ("The Staircase") as Ellen, Aar- on Eckhart ("The Dark Knight," 2008) as Cary, Taylor Schilling ("Orange Is The New Black") as Renee, Ron Livingston ("A Million Little Things") as Wax- man, Chris Diamantopoulos ("Silicon Valley") as Pope, Raza Jaffrey ("Lost in Space") as Chanda and William Hurt ("Goliath") as Stephen Hol- strom. WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "America's National Parks" - Season 1 Celebrate the natural wonder and power of your own back- yard with the National Geo- graphic series "America's Na- tional Parks," premiering on Disney+ Wednesday, Aug. 31. Showcasing North America's wildlife and incredible wilder- ness as they've never been seen before, each of this docu- series' eight episodes travels to a different American park, starting with Washington's Olympic National Park, one the the continent's most di- verse. Next, the series travels through Yosemite (California), the Everglades (Florida), the Gates of the Arctic (Alaska), Yellowstone (Wyoming, Mon- tana, Idaho), Saguaro (Arizo- na), the Grand Canyon (Arizo- na) and, finally, the Great Smoky Mountains (North Car- olina, Tennessee). By explor- ing the diverse flora and fauna of each park, "America's Na- tional Parks" looks at all the in- credible things that make the United States unique. Narrated by country music star Garth Brooks ("Friends in Low Plac- es"), the series is produced by Wildstar Films for National Geographic.
