T8 WHATS UP! August 21 - 27, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "Samaritan" (2022) Take to the streets for a crime- fighting adventure with the new Prime original action movie "Samaritan," premier- ing on the platform Friday, Aug. 26. For years, Joe Smith (Sylvester Stallone, "Rocky," 1976) protected the streets of Granite City under the guise of his super-powered vigilante alter ego, Samaritan, but when a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis, ended in di- saster, the public assumed their hero perished in the blaze. Some optimistic fans, including Joe's curious 13-year-old neighbor, Sam Cleary (Javon "Wanna" Wal- ton, "The Umbrella Acade- my"), still believe Samaritan is still alive and well and living under the radar. Convinced that his mysterious and reclu- sive neighbor is really the leg- endary vigilante and with crime on the rise, Sam makes it his mission to pull Samari- tan out of hiding and save the city from ruin. Directed by Ju- lius Avery ("Overlord," 2018) and written by Bragi F. Schut ("Escape Room," 2019), "Sa- maritan" is produced by Stal- lone and Braden Aftergood ("Battleship," 2012). The film also stars Pilou Asbaek ("Ghost in the Shell," 2017), Martin Starr ("Silicon Val- ley"), Dascha Polanco ("Or- ange Is the New Black"), Mois- es Arias ("The King of Staten Island," 2020), Sophia Tatum ("F9: The Fast Saga," 2021), Shaan Merchant ("Ms. Mar- vel"), Jared Odrick ("Ballers") and Michael Aaron Milligan ("Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," 2017). WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Mike" Peek into the storied life of an athletic legend with the eight- episode sports biopic "Mike," premiering Thursday, Aug. 25, on Hulu. Shining a light on the tumultuous personal life of former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson — played by Trevante Rhodes ("Moonlight," 2016) in adult- hood, B.J. Minor ("After Laughing," 2021) as a teenager and Ethan Barrett ("Passing," 2021) as the boxing legend during his childhood — the se- ries follows Tyson from his childhood through to the height of his career, including his time in prison, his mar- riage and much more. Along- side Mike Tyson's personal story, the series "examines class in America, race in America, fame and the power of media, misogyny, the wealth divide, the promise of the American Dream and ulti- mately our own role in shap- ing Mike's story" as he transi- tioned from beloved global athlete to social pariah and back again (per Hulu). Not au- thorized by Tyson himself, "Mike" gives a no-holds- barred look at the man behind the legend. Created and writ- ten by Steven Rogers ("I, Tonya," 2017), "Mike" is di- rected by Craig Gillespie ("Million Dollar Arm," 2014) and Director X ("Across the Line," 2015). The series also stars Scott MacDonald ("Queen Sugar"), Harvey Keit- el ("Reservoir Dogs," 1992), Suzette Lange ("NCIS: New Orleans"), Nathalie J. "Little Demon" - Season 1 Be careful about dancing with the devil, unless, of course, the devil is your dad. The first season of the FXX adult ani- mated comedy, "Little De- mon," streams Friday, Aug. 26, through FX on Hulu. However, as Lau- ra tries to get used to small- town life and Chrissy navi- gates junior high school, any and all of their attempts at normalcy are thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan (Danny DeVito, "It's Al- ways Sunny in Philadelphia") himself, who wants custody of his daughter's soul. Directed by Jeanette Moreno King ("Q- Force"), "Little Demon" is written by Darcy Fowler ("Nightmare Time," 2016), Seth Kirschner ("Stop the Bleeding!"), Kieran Valla ("Delinquent," 2016) and Key- shawn C.
