18 www.DesertMessenger.com July 20, 2022 STEVE SCHUE 2. Write-in for 2 year Council seat 4. I have been a resident of Quartzsite since 2008. During that time I have run a successful Real Estate business, been extensively involved with the community, and provided civic leadership. 5. As a member of the town coun- cil, maintained a constant supply of fresh clean water, oversaw a suc- cessful wastewater sewer system, managed a balance budget, oversaw zoning changes and town ordinanc- es. Also recently, approved a new well which will help to ensure the water supply for years to come. 6. Most important issues facing the Community are: • Public is health and safety and public welfare which includes hous- ing, employment, and schools CANDIDATES FROM PAGE 16 • Safe water, it is very important to me. I will continue set a high priority to supply continued water thru redundant means to prevent the lack thereof. • Jobs are necessary for the welfare and growth of the community. I have personally been a part of new businesses in area bring in jobs. Thru my efforts as REALTOR I have been a part of numerous commer- cial real estate transactions. • Schools are certainly an impor- tant part of the equation. Families will not come if we don't have ad- equate schools. I will continue to support efforts to bring in families to overcome this hurdle. • Housing is equally important. I will support the efforts to provide safe, affordable housing both single family and multi-family dwellings. 7. Honesty, integrity, experience. I have been on the Town Council for close to 7 years. Space donated by Desert Messenger News On July 16, 2022, 988 became the nationwide 3-digit dialing code for crisis and suicide prevention. It will replace the 1-800 number cur- rently used by the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. When some- one calls 988 all phones in the U.S. (mobile and landline) will connect with the crisis/suicide prevention system. This will allow anyone in the U.S. to call 988 and get help designed specifically for someone dealing with a mental health crisis. 988 Crisis Hotline now active! Over 2 mil- lion dollars of moneys that were designated funds for road main- tenance, HURF money, had been used to operated the town. The Wastewater Treatment Facil- ity was badly in need of repair and maintenance and did not have the capacity for future growth. Myself as well as the current Town Council were able to restructure the financ- es to not only pay off the debt in four years, but were able to revamp the Treatment Facility. Currently, we have a Wastewater Treatment Facility recognized by the state that has the capacity to take us well into the future.
