ΦKΘ XICLONE PHI KAPPA THETA FRATERNITY n IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY n SPRING 2022 Iowa XI Hosts successful MeMorIal event How To Contribute to the Greg Stein Endowment Fund S p e c i a l E d i t i o n T his April, Iowa Xi had the unique opportunity to work with the national Fraternity and Foundation to host the Greg Stein Brotherhood Weekend in memory of our late brother, Greg Stein, City College of New York '70. Based on the feedback received and number of attendees, it is safe to say that the weekend was a resounding success! So much so that we are dedicating this special edition of the XiClone in its entirety to recap the event. Overall, close to 130 brothers from nine different chapters registered for the various events. Seven of the past 16 presidents of the fraternity and foundation attended. We welcomed brothers from Georgia, New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Massachusetts, Washington, and Virginia to Ames, for the jam-packed weekend. Events kicked off on Friday evening with a tour of the chapter house followed by the graduating senior ceremony and dinner. The brothers enjoyed a great dinner at West Towne Pub celebrating our seven graduating seniors. The weekend continued Saturday with more scheduled tours and a series of leadership events for undergraduates and alumni. Afterward, the formal ritual was performed at the house to initiate Iowa Xi Chapter Advisor Derek Doebel. More than 80 members signed up to witness the ritual, so a Zoom call was scheduled to accommodate the number of attendees. It was mentioned that the ritual was expertly performed and would have made Brother Stein very proud. At the pinnacle, a formal dinner and program was held at the CPMI Event Center, on the south side of Ames, to honor Greg as a "Pillar, Mentor, Friend, and Brother." Immediate Past National President Doug Dilling, Kansas State University '84 served as emcee for the event, with Jimmy Reardon '24 providing the invocation. National President Matt Runkle, Worcester Polytechnic Institute '11 presented the inaugural Greg Stein "Live Our Motto" award that was posthumously presented to Brother Greg Stein. A special portrait of Greg was presented to the Iowa Xi Collegiate and Alumni chapters by the Stein family. It was accepted by Connor Cigrand '24 and Cory Millmier '12. Personal remarks were given by Paul Peterson '01, Kirk Thomas '76, Kevin Lampe, Western Illinois '83, Joe Rude '81, and Greg Stolp '84, each sharing how Brother Stein impacted their lives. A moving video that included interviews with some of Greg's closest friends in New York gave us a glimpse into a different part of Greg's life. It was apparent that his impact was felt by many in his community and church. As the emotional evening ended and things were wrapping up, some brothers remained and chatted about how Greg impacted their lives. "Words matter. Fraternity is about relationships and helping each other to become better versions of ourselves," Greg Stolp said. The weekend closed on Sunday with a moving memorial service for Greg followed by the Maximize Your Life event and a final house tour. More than $52,000 in contributions to the Greg Stein Endowment Fund have been made by 62 individual donors as of June. The goal is to reach $60,000 by December 31, 2022. Thank you to all who attended this historic event; it was a privilege to honor Brother Greg Stein in such a special way.
