4 Julian "Jude" Black Colorado School of Mines Thorson Honors – Quantitative Biosciences and Engineering or Biochemistry "Not only has Jude grown in stature, but he has matured into a critical- thinking young man who isn't afraid to share his ideas. We will miss Jude's keen observations and wry comments about life and school and just about everything else!" –Krista Barbour, Advisor Ian Blake University of Wisconsin-Madison – Mechanical Engineering "We count on Ian's decisiveness in our advising group when we are engaged in both deep and surface-level conversations and always appreciate his certainty. He is a state champion swimmer who emphasizes academic interest over a future in aquatics. We love these dualities, and they speak to the complexity and nuance that is Ian Blake." –Neal Barbour, Advisor Lizzette Borjas Notre Dame – Marketing "Lizzette is the keeper of traditions! My favorite memory with Lizzette is a toss-up between her quinceañera, when she emerged as a graceful Disney princess, to this year's Leadership Challenge Event in Topeka, where Lizzette and her team wowed the judges (and themselves) with a second-place win! We will all miss her kindness and wisdom next year." –Sonja Czarnecki, Advisor Marie Brockhoff Williams College – Biology and History "Marie has been an outstanding leader in our advising group. She is always there to help and support others—a true model of what it means to be a 'Seabury Kid.' Our group won't be the same without her! As she moves on to her next adventure, we will be eagerly waiting to hear back from her about all the amazing details!" –Don Meier, Advisor Alesia Brovtcyna School of Visual Arts, NYC "Alesia: her creativity, playfulness, determination, and passion as well as her smiling eye roll and her wry wit. She is a very talented artist and actress—and an essential member of our advising group. She can be both the mother hen and a mischief maker (in the best way). She is also very personable and thoughtful with students of all ages. We will miss her next year!" –Don Schawang, Advisor Ivan Calderon William Jewell College – Psychology and Theatre "Ivan is someone that everyone looks up to. I've said it once and I will always say it—Ivan is always the nicest person in the room. He is so patient and kind to all. Ivan is a saint among men." –Sara Asher, Advisor Ryan Dekat Xavier University "Ryan has been the heart of our little advising group since I can remember. When there is something to do, something to organize, Ryan is the one. Watching Ryan mature has been a distinct pleasure. I look forward to his return to us on occasion to regale us with a fun Ryan story." –Doug Weaver, Advisor Lou Defebvre L'Institut Superieur des Arts Appliques School of Design, Paris – Fashion Design and Business "Lou's positive, friendly, and international character have contributed enormously to the social depth and cohesion of our advising group. She's also an impressively conscientious worker, really caring about her grades and the quality of work that she produces. We will all miss her next year!" –Rupert Randall, Advisor Carly Devine Coe College "Carly has been a quiet influence in our advising group. She offers insight when needed and will provide support to other group member's ideas. Carly is an accomplished gamer! I look forward to hearing about 'Carly successes' in the future." –Ron Young, Advisor Katie Eckert Rochester Institute of Technology – Computer Explorations "Katie is an outstanding student, talented pianist, and skilled volleyball player. She is the rock of our advising; it's difficult to think of it without her. She always has something brilliant to say or some wonderful observation to share. Thank you, Katie, for contributing so much wisdom and fun to our advising and Latin classes. Cheers to your future!" –Amy Meyers, Advisor Will Gaudreau DePaul University "Will has been described by all of his teachers as thoughtful, kind to others, funny, a great friend, and a hardworking student. His creativity shines through his beautiful photography, unique game design, and his interest in technology. We will miss Will in the advisory next year and are wishing him all the best as we know he will go on to do great things no matter where he is!" –Will Whipple, Advisor Shea Hanna Rhodes College – Anthropology and Sociology, minor in Business "Shea is a leader in every sense of the word! The most special quality of Shea is her heart and love for the things in her life. Shea Hanna will do amazing things wherever life may take her, and our advising group is so excited to follow her journey! We love you, Shea!" –Brian Rios, Advisor Darby Harris Indiana University – East Asian Languages and Cultures/Korean and International Law and Institutions "Darby Harris is irreplaceable. While petite in stature, she is massive in personality and has been adding energy and pizzazz to our advising group since the first day she darkened the doorway. She gives off positive energy and is a natural and genuine communicator. Her positive influence on these programs cannot be underestimated." –Eric Nelson, Advisor Summer Hartzler Bethel College – Soccer "Whether it is scoring four goals in a single game or offering artistic direction on our pumpkins in our advisory group, Summer comes through. The younger students look up to her and her contemporaries respect her. Summer, you are a true artist, a committed craftswoman, and a beloved advisee." –Neal Barbour, Advisor Will Hedges University of Kansas Honors – Electrical Engineering and Computer Science "Will Hedges brings positivity to everything he does and everyone around him. He is intelligent, has an amazing work ethic, and does not let anything get him down. He is gracious and has a passion for learning. Keep smiling!" –Kara Schrader, Advisor Sam Hertzog University of Wisconsin-Madison – Economics "Sam, you have always been an excellent student, and we've certainly admired your work ethic and your self-confidence. In addition, you've modeled dedication to your favorite sport and to your basketball teammates. In advising, we will always remember your 'Seabury Spirits' inspiration that took us from fifth place to third in the all-important Pumpkin Contest. Your legacy will live on!" –Vanessa Eicher, Advisor Anna Johnson University of Kansas – School of Architecture and Design "Anna Johnson is calm, cool, and collected. She is even-tempered and—dare I say it—wise. She is a supportive friend who is known by her fellow advisees for her kindness.
