T8 WHATS UP! June 5 - 11, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Hustle" (2022) Tie up your sneakers and prac- tice your free throws: The inspi- rational new sports drama "Hus- tle" premieres Wednesday, June 8, on Netflix. Washed-up pro basketball scout Stanley Beren (Adam Sandler, "The Waterboy," 1998) is down on his luck and desperate to revive his career. While traveling abroad in Spain, Beren's luck seems to change when he happens upon once-in- a-lifetime player Bo Cruz (played by NBA power forward Juancho Hernangomez) shoot- ing hoops in a park outside Ma- drid. Risking everything he has by bringing the young player back to the United States with- out the approval of his team, Stanley and Bo grapple with Bo's rocky past as they risk their only shot to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NBA. Against all odds, Stanley grooms Bo to be a great player while try- ing to bring himself back into his team's good graces. Directed by Jeremiah Zagar ("We the Ani- mals," 2018), "Hustle" is written by Will Fetters ("A Star is Born," 2018) and Taylor Materne ("Dominoes," 2020). Ben Foster ("Hell or High Water," 2016), An- drea Sooch ("Claws"), Robert Duvall ("The Godfather," 1972), Queen Latifah ("The Equaliz- er"), Kenny Smith ("The NBA on TNT"), Jaleel White ("Family Matters"), Raúl Castillo ("Army of the Dead," 2021) and María Botto ("Good Behavior") co-star in the film alongside NBA play- ers Boban Marjanovic, Anthony Edwards, Trae Young, Jordan Clarkson, Khris Middleton, Aar- on Gordon, Kyle Lowry, Seth Curry, Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle and Tyrese Maxey. NBA coaches Doc Rivers and Mark Jackson also star. "Peaky Blinders" - Season 6 Don't miss the conclusion of the fan-favorite crime family saga "Peaky Blinders" when the se- ries' sixth and final season pre- mieres Friday, June 10, on Netf- lix. Set in post-war Birmingham, U.K., for much of the series, "Peaky Blinders" follows the tit- ular street gang and their fierce leader, Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy, "Inception," 2010), as he works to build his crime em- pire beyond the bounds of Bir- mingham and stopping anyone who dares get in his way. Head- ing into Season 6, Tommy enters a whole new world of opportu- nity as he makes a trip across the pond to North America. While post-prohibition America pres- ents a great opportunity for his business, old adversaries, new rivals and his political aspira- tions might prove too much for Tommy to overcome. As he fac- es the consequences of his ac- tions, Tommy's ultimate hunt for power comes to an explosive head. Loosely based on a real- life street gang of the same name from the turn of the 20th centu- ry, "Peaky Blinders" is created by Steven Knight ("See") and di- rector Anthony Byrne ("In Darkness," 2018). The series also stars Paul Anderson ("Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," 2011), Sophie Rundle ("Gentle- man Jack"), Helen McCrory ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," 2011), Ned Den- nehy ("Outlander"), Finn Cole ("Animal Kingdom"), Natasha O'Keeffe ("Resistance"), Ian Peck ("Robin Hood," 2018), Har- ry Kirton ("We Can Be Heroes," 2017), Packy Lee ("The Franken- stein Chronicles"), Kate Phillips ("Miss Scarlet and the Duke"), Aimee-Ffion Edwards ("War of the Worlds"), Tom Hardy ("Ven- om," 2018), Amber Anderson ("Emma." 2020), Charlene McK- enna ("Raw") and James Frecheville ("Requiem"). Kim, "A Spy Movie," 2021) and Truman (Jaboukie Young-White, "Ralph Breaks the Internet," 2018) on their never-ending quest for clout on Los Angeles' Fairfax Avenue (the ultimate center of hypebeast culture), this adult animated comedy sees the friends do whatever it takes to get popular and stay popular in the age of social media. From standing in line for a pair of sneakers they'll never wear to trying out viral challenges, these ride-or-die friends do it all. Cre- ated by Matt Hausfater ("Un- dateable") and new writer/pro- ducers Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley, Season 2 of "Fair- fax" also voice stars John Le- guizamo ("Encanto," 2021), J.B. Smoove ("Curb Your Enthusi- asm") and Colton Dunn ("Su- perstore"), and features a special guest appearance from "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" host and Food Network superstar Guy Fi- eri. WHAT'S NEW ON APPLE TV+ "For All Mankind" - Season 3 Experience an alternate reality with the Season 3 release of "For All Mankind," premiering its first episode Friday, June 10, on Apple TV+, and releasing week- ly episodes on Fridays thereaf- ter. This sci-fi drama imagines an alternate universe in which the global space race never end- ed and Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov eventually becomes the first human to land on the moon. While this outcome dev- astates morale at NASA, it also pushes the American space pro- gram to catch up. Moving on from the early days of space ex- ploration, Season 3 moves into the 1990s as the world's space programs set their sights on a new goal: Mars. While the Unit- ed States and the Soviet Union go head-to-head, an unexpected new entrant into the race to Mars drives the stakes even higher. Created by Ronald D. Moore ("Star Trek: The Next Generation"), Ben Nedivi ("Far- go") and Matt Wolpert ("The Umbrella Academy"), Season 3 is directed by Andrew Stanton ("Wall-E," 2008) and Dan Liu ("The Walking Dead").
