May 22 - 28, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Ewan McGregor ("Trainspot- ting," 1996) returns to his iconic role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the new Star Wars franchise minise- ries "Obi-Wan Kenobi," premier- ing Friday, May 27, on Disney+. Set 10 years after the events of "Star Wars: Episode III - Re- venge of the Sith" (2005), the six- episode series chronicles Jedi- master Obi-Wan's adventures as he watches over a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely, "Creep- show") and evades the Empire's elite band of Jedi hunters during his exile on the desert planet Ta- tooine. The series is directed by "The Mandalorian's" Deborah Chow and written by Joby Har- old ("Army of the Dead," 2021), Stuart Beattie ("Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," 2003), Hossein Amini ("Drive," 2011), Hannah Friedman ("Trolls: The Beat Goes On!") and Andrew Stanton ("Finding Nemo," 2003). "Obi- Wan Kenobi" also stars Rupert Friend ("Anatomy of a Scandal"), Joel Edgerton ("The Gift," 2015), Benny Safdie ("Good Time," 2017), Maya Erskine ("Inse- cure"), Sung Kang ("The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," 2006), Simone Kessell ("Reck- oning"), O'Shea Jackson Jr. ("Straight Outta Compton," 2015), Bonnie Piesse ("Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones," 2002) and Moses In- gram ("The Queen's Gambit"), and features of the return of Hayden Christensen ("Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith," 2005) to the role of Darth Vader. WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Somebody Feed Phil" - Season 5 Experience some of the world's greatest cuisines with Season 5 of "Somebody Feed Phil," pre- miering Wednesday, May 25, on Netflix. Phil Rosenthal (creator of "Everybody Loves Ray- mond") continues on his jour- ney to experience all of the foods and cultures the world has to offer in five new episodes of this beloved series. Phil travels to new destinations, beginning at home in the States with Maine and Portland, Oregon, before heading across the world to Hel- sinki, Madrid and Oaxaca in Mexico. As he travels and learns the history of the food and the places he visits, Phil makes con- nections with the locals, just about all of whom are taken with his unique sense of humor. Di- rected by John Bedolis ("I'll Have What Phil's Having"), the series is written by Rosenthal, Bedolis, Rich Rosenthal ("Chil- dren's Hospital") and Henry Tenney ("The Business of Drugs"). WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "Emergency" (2022) The party never stops with the new satirical thriller film "Emer- gency," premiering Friday, May 27, on Prime. Making the most of their last official spring break, college seniors Kunle (Donald Elise Watkins, "Black Box," 2020), Sean (R.J. Cyler, "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl," 2015) and Carlos (Sebastian Chacon, "Penny Dreadful: City of An- gels") have a wild night of party- ing planned out. But when the friends and roommates discover a drunk, semi-conscious girl that none of them knows on their liv- ing room floor, the boys try to figure out how to get the girl, whom they've nicknamed Gold- ilocks (Maddie Nichols, "Ann Rule's A Murder to Remember," 2020), somewhere safe without having to call the police. Mean- while, the girl's sister (Sabrina Carpenter, "The Hate U Give," 2018) is frantically trying to track her down using her phone location, leading all involved on a chaotic wild goose chase across the city. Directed by Car- ey Williams ("The Process") and written by K.D. Dávila ("Sal- vation"), the film also stars Mad- ison Thompson ("Ozark"), Di- ego Abraham ("The Walking Dead: World Beyond"), Summer Madison ("American Soul"), Gil- lian Rabin ("Just What the Doc- tor Ordered," 2021) and Patrick Lamont Jr. ("Money Plane," 2020). "Kick Like Tayla" Get a look into the life of one in- credible female athlete with the new documentary "Kick Like Tayla," premiering Friday, May 27, on Prime. Leading a success- ful boxing career while playing in the NAB AFL Women's com- petition for the Carlton Football Club, an Australian rules foot- ball club, Tayla Harris has led an impressive sporting career. This documentary film, which fol- lowed Tayla behind the scenes of the 2021 season, looks at what makes Tayla tick and gives in- sight into the personal and pub- lic challenges she's faced with cyberbullying, sexism and social media. After a photo from one of her AFL games brought on a wave of sexist, derogatory com- mentary, Tayla has used her plat- form for good. The "Kick Like Tayla" film crew now shares their view of how voices like hers are imperative to helping change harmful attitudes to- wards female athletes. "Kick Like Tayla" is produced by Gil Marsden and Beth Wallis (both of "Making Their Mark") and di- rected my Marsden.
