WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM MAY 4 - MAY 10, 2022 UCW 13 MAY 14 PET FEST OF THE SANDHILLS HOPE MILLS MUNICIPAL PARK The 2022 Pet Fest event will be fun for the whole family as there will be games to play, tricks to be amazed by and plenty of food to eat. Bring the entire family, including your pets. Dogs must be on a leash throughout the event. Pet Fest of the Sandhills is a yearly event in the beautiful grassy location at Hope Mills Park. There will be animal presentations and ani- mal vendors, a Pet Fest 5 K Pet Walk benefiting the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society , a kids area and more. Admission is free. MAY 15 PLANETARIUM GRAND REOPENING FAYETTEVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY The Planetarium has been closed for a while, but at last, the wait is over. Wait till you see what has been done. The Planetarium now has ten digital projectors to cover the entire dome. Visitors can now see not just the stars here but can fly all over the Solar System and beyond. There are new seats and a renovated building. The opening has two showtimes to choose from (7 p.m. and 8 p.m.), followed by telescopes outside to view the total lunar eclipse, weather permitting. The partial phase of the eclipse starts at 10:30 p.m., and the moon will be covered completely at 11:30 p.m. No tickets are required for the eclipse itself. MAY 22 SYMPHONY ON TAP DISTRICT HOUSE OF TAPS The Fayetteville Symphony's Jazz Ensemble will entertain at the District House of Taps during brunch at noon. District House of Taps is located at 1240 Fort Bragg Road. Symphony on Tap is supported by an Arts Council Mini- Grant and Mary Flagg, and Jim Haugh. LEGACY BALL AIRBORNE & SPECIAL OPERATIONS MUSEUM The 2022 Legacy Ball hosted by the Airborne & Special Operations Mu- seum Foundation will celebrate the history of the Airborne and Special Operations Soldiers. The event will be catered by Elliott's on Linden. This event will also feature a cocktail hour, entertainment, and a live band. Distinguished Guests of Honor include Medal of Honor Recipient Master Sgt. (Ret) Leroy Petry and Lt. Gen. Christopher Donahue, Commanding General XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg. This black-tie affair will feature artwork created for the children in their care. In addition to the collection of artworks up for auction, there will be live music from local musician Ethan Hanson and a special guest. Guest speaker Matt Mercer will talk about the importance of supporting the children in the foster care system. A silent auction will cap off the night. Ticket sales are limited. For more information about tickets and how you can contribute visit the event's Facebook page or email dominique.j.womack@gmail.com. 10TH ANNUAL PIG PICKIN' FORT BRAGG HARLEY DAVIDSON The tenth Annual Pig Pickin' for Autism event is back and is being hosted by Cape Beard: Follicles of Freedom from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. This family-friendly event has raised over $85,800 since 2012. Several outdoor activities are planned, including local vendors, live music, a fire truck on display, a dunk tank and $5 BBQ plates, including BBQ, slaw and beans. All funds from this event will be donated to the Autism Soci- ety of Cumberland County. The Autism Society of Cumberland County is committed to providing support and promoting opportunities that enhance the lives of individuals within the autism spectrum and their families. They strive to create a community where people within the autism spectrum and their families receive respect, services and support based on indi- vidual differences, needs and preferences. MAY 21 MAY 19 QUARTERLY FAITH FORUM ST. JOSEPH'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH The Fayetteville Police Department presents this quarter's Faith Forum. The event will spotlight Traffic Stops, De-Escalation and Security Surveys and feature members of the Traffic and Crime Prevention Units. FAIRVIEW GILBERT THEATER The Gilbert Theater will present the first performance of "Fairview" on May 27. The show starts at 8 p.m. and the play will run through June 12. It's Grandma's birthday and the Frasier family have gathered to celebrate. Beverly just wants everything to run smoothly, but Tyrone has missed his flight, Keisha is freaking out about college and Grandma has locked herself in the bathroom. Follow- ing a ground-breaking, sell-out run in New York, Jackie Sibblies Drury's Fairview is an interrogation of subtly destructive preconceptions. Friday shows will begin at 8 p.m., Saturday there will be two shows at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and on Sundays the Gilbert Theater will offer a 2 p.m. perfor- mance. Tickets are $15.
