MAY 6 FSO STRING QUARTET TONY RAND STUDENT CENTER Fayetteville Technical Community Col- lege's Fine Arts Department is proud to present the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra String Quartet, a free concert event open to the public. The concert will be in the multipurpose room of the Tony Rand Student Center, located on Hull Road in Fayetteville, starting at 7 p.m. MAY 12 - MAY 29 PARTY AT JAY'S SYSTEL BUILDING, 11TH FLOOR Nick Carraway arrives at Jay Gatsby's estate for a night of jazz, dancing, and hooch - what unfolds around him is a thrilling tale of forlorn lovers. Con- ceived and developed by local artists, Party at Jay's is set in New York in 1922. Taken from pages of F. Scott Fitzgerald's American classic "The Great Gatsby," the Party at Jay's is told through interactive stag- ing where the audience are the guests at Jay's. Jay's is the hottest spot from the roaring '20s — featuring new and exciting arrangements of jazz standards and an original score by composer and Sweet Tea Shake- speare Company member Sarah Chapman, which fuses period and contemporary orchestrations. MAY 13 GARDENMANIA CAPE FEAR BOTANICAL GARDEN Join the Cape Fear Botanical Gar- dens for this annual event presented by Cape Fear Valley Health System, which will feature presentations on gardening topics of interest to all levels of gardeners. Keynote Speak- er Bryce Lane – former host of the Emmy-winning UNC-TV public tele- vision show "In the Garden With Bryce Lane," will lead two workshops on container gardening. Experience workshops like camellia pruning, herb gardening, make and take your own bird feeder and more. Also enjoy activities, vendors and lots of fun. MAY 14 MAY 7 ANTIQUE CARS FAYETTEVILLE HISTORY MUSEUM Join the Fayetteville History Museum for a car show of pre-WWII cars. You can chat with vehicle owners, learn about early automobiles and grab a photo in one. The show is open for all ages and is free.
