the betA Piper PAge 4 A s with any house, repairs and maintenance projects are necessary to keep the home in shape and tackle issues before they progress. These projects keep us busy and support our mission of providing a quality home to the Beta undergraduates. Thankfully, after completing a major project last summer to replace the roof, members of the Housing Corporation only need to deal with a few small-to-medium fixes at this time. On the third level of the house, electrical repairs are in the works to address dead outlets, add new ones, and fix broken light fixtures above the bedroom sinks. On the main level of the chapter house, the front door is also being addressed in the weeks to come. General usage and wear-and-tear of the heavy door over time have caused it to no longer fit tightly. We will rebuild the frame to ensure it is secure and to eliminate cold drafts currently plaguing the entry area. A trip to the basement will quickly reveal ongoing work to repair the wall separating the main basement space and the food pantry. A deteriorating hot water pipe (connected to a living room radiator) was leaking slowly over a plaster wall. Due to that original wall damage, as well as additional demolition needed to access the deteriorated pipe, a complete rebuild of the wall will soon be finished. Other projects include repainting a ceiling in one of the stairwells and fixing up the concrete stairs that lead to the back door. We greatly appreciate the generous gifts made by alumni and friends of Beta. Thank you! Are you interested in volunteering? If you live in the Twin Cities metro area, we welcome you to get involved with the Housing Corporation. We are seeking additional volunteers for our board, and you can make a meaningful contribution to Beta Pi with your time and talents. You will also be certain to develop friendships with local Betas of a variety of generations. To start, we recommend you attend an upcoming in-person or virtual meeting. Improvements/rebuilding of the framing around the rough opening for the door will allow the casing and slab to sit more securely within the frame and will prevent the looseness we have seen developing over the last few years. The back staircase. The damage appears to be related to hand trucks used to deliver food. The repair will include a steel nose on the corners of the treads to prevent future deterioration. More evidence of the effects of the door not sitting securely within the frame. Plaster wall demolition due to water damage in the northeast corner of the dining room. This will be replaced with sheetrock. Maintaining Our Home Housing Corporation Addresses Areas in Need of Repairs
