The campaign board will work with the Educational Foundation staff and professional fundraising counsel to ensure the success of the campaign. I. ENSURE THAT ALL FRATERNITY AND FOUNDATION VOLUNTEERS ARE PROPERLY TRAINED IN MAJOR GIFT SOLICITATION The Educational Foundation should ensure that campaign volunteers are properly trained in the process of prospect introduction, cultivation, and major gift solicitation. Such instruction should provide detailed information about each component of a visit and solicitation, training in how to overcome objections, and extensive role playing to give individuals practice and to instill confidence in their abilities. J. ENHANCE THE PROFESSIONAL DIALOGUE IN THE BUSINESS MEETINGS AND OPERATIONS OF THE ORGANIZATION In any significant fundraising effort, it is important that the alumni constituency feel well represented and connected to the leadership, as confidence in and connection to the boards will translate to trust in the decisions of the organization. As the Foundation prepares to potentially double or triple its assets, it will also need to increase its level of sophistication and professionalism. Business meeting dialogue should be kept to professional discussion and minutes and reports should be sent out in advance of the meeting. K. CREATE A COMPREHENSIVE SET OF CAMPAIGN POLICIES FOR GIFT ACCEPTANCE AND DONOR RECOGNITION Campaign giving categories must be developed and named at appropriate levels. In addition, a plan that ensures proper donor recognition must be developed and should include, at a minimum, naming opportunities with length of time and a prominent list of donors on the Delta Chi website and other communication channels. To maximize the size of contributions, a five-year payment period is suggested for campaign pledges. Estate gifts and annual fund contributions will be an important component of a capital campaign.
