Forty-two e-survey respondents did not provide an estimate and seven stated they would not make a gift to a future campaign. Estate gifts are often included in a capital campaign. Thirteen percent of those personally interviewed indicated they already have documented estate plans to support Delta Chi. Eighteen percent indicated they have plans but have not formalized their commitment, and an additional 33% said they would consider it. During the study, 28% of interviewees said "Yes" they are willing to volunteer for the campaign in some manner and 30% would consider it with more information. Many interviewees were reluctant to volunteer, citing discomfort in asking for money, concerns about the time commitment, or concerns being able to succinctly explain the importance of a future campaign for Delta Chi. Offering alumni proper training on the case for support and effective solicitation methods, and providing materials, proposals, and support, will be critical to ensure volunteer success. Pennington & Company concludes that a goal of $10 million is attainable over a five-year period. This total includes cash, estate, and unrestricted annual gifts over the next five years. In our judgment, a higher goal could be established only if the requisite larger gifts ($500,000 and above) are secured.
