T7 BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media T he traits "Tough, yet supportive and fun- ny," along with an ability to motivate and inspire, are the kind of qualities many people look for in a mentor or career coach. It's also how Food Network de- scribes chef Cliff Crooks, who is back to guide more strug- gling cooks in a new season of "Chef Boot Camp." The Food Network series launched its second season Thursday, April 7, and a new episode airs April 14. It's also available to stream on discov- ery+. Fresh off his recent stint as host/mentor in "Worst Cooks in America," Crooks is back to inspire chefs by sharing his ex- periences and passing on the knowledge he's acquired over the years. The former "Top Chef " con- testant knows a thing or two about second chances, but it is his passion that gives shape to each episode of "Chef Boot Camp," which, as the title sug- gests, puts chefs through a se- ries of challenges that moti- vate them to strengthen their commitment to their food ca- reer or leave the industry alto- gether. In the Season 2 premiere, Crooks worked with a food truck owner, a caterer who wanted to elevate her dishes, and a restaurant owner whose brothers/chefs didn't take him seriously. This Thursday's (April 14) episode features for- mer executive chef Dan, whose confidence is gone after having to start over as a line cook at the age of 53; food truck owner Moe, whose "Messy Moe" nickname is spilling over into the rest of the business; and business owner Brandy, who struggles to focus on tasks. Food Network renewed "Chef Boot Camp" almost a week after its freshman season wrapped in May 2021, at which time the cable channel's top ex- ecutive, president Courtney White, stated, "Cliff is an excit- ing addition to Food Network — he demands a lot from those under his 'Chef Boot Camp' tu- telage, and at the same time genuinely wants to inspire and reignite their passion for food. He is a fantastic talent who im- mediately resonated with our audience and we knew quickly they wanted to see more of him." Indeed, expect to see more of Crooks in the weeks (and possibly months) to come, since White has since de- scribed him as "one of the net- work's rising stars." "Chef Boot Camp" airs Thursdays on Food Network.
