MARCH 27-APRIL 2, 2022 FYI Trike Theatre FY23 Season The season kicks off in July with "Disney's Descendents," a brand new musical featuring characters from the films set in the present day kingdom of Auradon, where Disney's beloved heroes and royalty are living happily ever after … until Ben, the benevo- lent teenage son of Belle and King Adam (The Beast), offers a chance of redemption for the troublemaking offspring of the evilest villains. The next play comes in October, with a working title of "Untitled Sher- lock Holmes Play" by Riles Newsome. "It's written by a local playwright," Tennison says. In it, "Sherlock has passed away and Watson's daugh- ter and friends try to crack his last unsolved case. It's a lot of fun." In December is a remount of a popular production "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," based on the best-selling book. In it, a couple struggling to put on a church Christ- mas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids, probably the most inventively awful kids in history. January 2023 promises a two-per- son (both adults) version of "Gold- ilocks and the Three Bears," which Trike does annually. This special version of the tale was created espe- cially for preschoolers, but the Trike website promises it will get the whole family laughing along too. In March 2023 will be a regional premiere production of "The Jungle Book," a co-production with Ra-Ve Foundation, a registered nonprofit dedicated to promoting Indian performing arts in Northwest Arkan- sas. It uses classical Indian dance and music to tell the story of Mowgli. The Next Gen Project, by the Trike Resident Acting Company (TRAC), will complete the new season in May 2023. High school students spend six months devising a new piece of theater based on their personal expe- riences. It's recommended for ages 13 and older. Trike also offers the TRAC program, a resident program for students in grade six through high school. The students work on four shows in Trike's season, two as performers and two backstage as part of the junior design team. For more informa- tion, contact Chris Tennison, Head of Academy at Trike Theatre, at chris@ triketheatre.org. Trike Continued From Page 5 BENTONVILLE to audition for the specific parts in a particular show," Tennison says. So if you or your child plan to audition for a part, there are a few things Trike asks you to bear in mind. First, arrive at least 5 minutes before audition time, to mentally prepare and to fill out forms. And while they adore props and costumes, "we would love it if you would leave them at home, because we just want to see the performer," Tennison says. "It detracts, and I just want to see what you're doing here, not your bling." Similarly, be sure to wear clothes you can move easily in, including close-toed shoes, in fact sneakers are great, just in case there's any movement in the audition. To that same point, leave the dangly jewelry and/or hats behind and come prepared to just present yourself and your skills. Stage hopefuls should practice a little each day. Tennison recommends roughly 20 minutes a day for the week before the audition and try it out a time or two in front of a supportive audience of your own choosing. "That way you'll be so prepared, walk in and just nail it," he says. "Perform in front of people to get the nerves out: your mom, your dad, your grandma, your neighbor, your fish. Do it in front of things. Oh, and have fun! This should be fun. It shouldn't be oppressive." For the youngest actors, that 20 minutes a day doesn't have to be all in one block. Have your little one do 10 minutes twice a day or 5 minutes four times a day, whatever works to get that practice in, Tennison says. While all the productions each have something special, Tennison anticipates Disney's "Descendants" and "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" being the big draws. If you have one you feel strongly about being a part of, you can make that preference known on the forms you fill out before the audition. "We are so ready to get back to whatever the new normal is," Tennison says. "We're coming back. This is our return to normal asterisk, unless…"
