T22 WHATS UP! February 27 - March 5, 2022 The Late Show with Stephen Colbert We've now learned that Rudy [Giuliani] was unmasked dur- ing last week's taping of ["The Masked Singer's"] first episode of Season 7. A truly shocking revelation. I can't believe "The Masked Singer" has had seven seasons! ... A lot of people are mad about this ... but keep in mind it may not be the produc- ers' fault. It's possible that Rudy just wandered onto the Fox lot and passed out in a cos- tume. Soon, getting immunized might even be easier, because scien- tists are developing nasal vac- cines. The medicine goes right up your nose. Turns out Don Jr. was just trying to fight COVID this whole time: "You want to join me in the bathroom for a quick bump of immunity?" The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Well, today is Groundhog Day. That's right, we spend the whole year asking people to trust the science then ask a large rodent to predict the weather. On Sunday [Feb. 6], Queen Eliz- abeth will celebrate 70 years as monarch, but more than 10,000 souvenirs marking her Platinum jubilee actually have a typo. This is real: It says "Platinum Jubbly." The queen was not happy with the plates. For the rest of the day, her office sounded like a Greek wedding. NASA announced that they will retire the International Space Station in 2031 by crashing it into a remote part of the Pacific Ocean. That was put together by the new head of NASA, Vin Die- sel. Wouldn't it just be safer to leave it in space? I know there's plenty of room, it's called "Space." The Late Late Show With James Corden It's official: The greatest quar- terback in the history of the NFL is retiring. Tom Brady made the announcement this morning on Instagram. ... I will say the timing is a little suspect. I think Tom Brady wants to be on the Su- preme Court. Researchers say they have found the safest song to listen to while driving. ... [It's] Billy Eilish's "Bad Guy." ... And — this is true — Outkast's "Hey Ya" was named the most distracting song while driving. Difficult not to veer off the road and "shake it like a Polaroid picture." Jimmy Kimmel Live! There's a big announcement from the NFL today: The Wash- ington Football Team has a new name. The organization former- ly known as the Redskins is now the Washington Commanders. The 'W' [in their logo] stands for "Why did it take you two years for you to come up with this?" 'The Commanders' sounds kind of like an action movie where Dolph Lungren and Sylvester Stallone join forc- es to defend their assisted-living facility. NBC has decided not to send their sportscasters to the Olym- pics. NBC said, "If our commen- tators are gonna get COVID, it ain't gonna be in China; it's gon- na be right here in Los Angeles at the Super Bowl!" Late Night With Seth Meyers Former White House adviser Kellyanne Conway announced last week that she will release a memoir in May called "Here's the Deal," which is also the name of the bookstore bin where you'll find it. A federal judge in Oklahoma resentenced Netflix's "Tiger King" star Joe Exotic to 21 years in prison last week. Let- ting him out any sooner would put the public at risk for a third season. The New York Times has re- portedly paid in the low seven figures to acquire the daily word game Wordle, but I got it in six. The national weather service in Florida warned over the week- end that the cold temperatures could immobilize iguanas, causing them to fall out of trees and appear dead. Experts added that residents would only have a very limited window to ar- range them in funny positions on their lawn. LATE LAUGHS BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media Home advantage: While NBC drama "This Is Us" is slow- ly winding to a close, Pearson patriarch Milo Ventimiglia is gearing up to expand his part- nership with NBC. The actor's production com- pany DiVide Pictures has long had an overall deal with 20th Television, the Disney-backed studio behind "This Is Us," and according to The Hollywood Reporter, DiVide Pictures re- cently sold NBC the script to a new hockey drama titled "Hometown Saints." The series centers on a retired hockey player named Billy Rie- dell, who is feeling lost and disil- lusioned now that his playing career has come to an end. After moving back to his hometown in Minnesota, Billy reluctantly lac- es up his skates once again — this time to coach a high school girls team. Grainne Godfree ("DC's Leg- ends of Tomorrow") is teaming up with Derek Elliott ("Klein") to write the script, and the two serve as executive producers alongside Ventimiglia, whose in- volvement seems to be limited to an off-screen role (for now). While "Hometown Saints" is more of a concept than a reality at this stage, another Minnesota- based hockey series has named its new team captain following a solid rookie season. Josh Duhamel ("Jupiter's Leg- acy") is set to replace Emilio Es- tevez ("The Breakfast Club," 1985) as the lead in Season 2 of Disney+'s "The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers." Estevez, who played coach Gordon Bombay in the films and in this TV sequel series, ex- ited "Game Changers" in No- vember due to "a good old-fash- ioned contract dispute" and "a myriad of creative differences," noting, "any other narrative is false." Duhamel will portray former NHL player-turned-coach Gavin Cole, who runs the intense sum- mer hockey institute that serves as the setting for Season 2. Per Disney, Cole is reportedly "as in- spirational, charming and hard- core as he is big on the hockey metaphor that applies to life." But before he hits the ice, Du- hamel will appear in NBC's "The Thing About Pam," premiering March 8. 'Treasure' seeker: In other Disney+ news, the streamer has announced that Oscar- and To- ny-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones ("Chicago," 2002) is joining its new "National Trea- sure" TV series. The new addition to the fran- chise is trying a different tack from the film series by featuring a young heroine instead of Nico- las Cage's ("Con Air," 1997) his- torian/code-breaker/Declara- tion of Independence "thief," Ben Gates. Instead, Lisette Alex- is ("Total Eclipse") stars as Jess, a woman in search of answers about her family, who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover past truths and save a lost Pan-American treasure. But first she'll have to contend with Zeta-Jones' character. Zeta-Jones will play Billie, a black market antiquities expert and treasure hunter who lives by her own code. Having gone from penniless orphan to billionaire businesswoman, Billie is used to getting what she wants — and she wants that treasure, al- though her motivation isn't purely financial. The actress joins a cast that also includes Lyndon Smith ("Parenthood") in the role of FBI agent Ross; Zuri Reed ("Flatbush Misdemeanors") and Jordan Rodrigues ("Light as a Feather") as Jess's best friends, Tasha and Ethan; Antonio Cipri- ano ("Jagged Little Pill") as goofball Oren; and Jake Austin Walker ("12 Mighty Oprhans," 2021) in the role of struggling musician Liam, who also comes from a long line of treasure hunters. 'Iron Legend': "Iron Chef," the Japanese cooking competi- tion that spawned a new TV genre in America in the 1990s, is coming back. Netflix has officially given the franchise the reboot treat- ment, with a target premiere for some time in late 2022. The streamer is also touting "Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Leg- end" as a "supersized" version of the original format, which launched shows such as "Top Chef " and "Hell's Kitchen." Here's how Netflix describes the series: "The legendary 'Iron Chef ' series is reborn with a su- persized approach to the groundbreaking culinary com- petition that started it all. It's been called the toughest culi- nary challenge a chef will ever experience. This is where world-class cuisine meets high- octane sports. Five new trail- blazing Iron Chefs will wel- come brave Challenger Chefs to the reimagined Kitchen Sta- dium, where they'll face off and be pushed to the limits of en- durance and creativity as they cook up extraordinary culinary creations. The competition's most successful Challenger will return to battle in a grand finale for the chance to be named the first ever 'Iron Leg- end.'" Eight new episodes of "Iron Legend" have been confirmed, and given its new home on Net- flix, the reboot likely won't in- clude any Food Network stars or "Iron Chef America" alumni — not even Michael Symon, who confirmed he wasn't in- volved in this one, despite be- ing a near-constant fixture on other "Iron Chef " specials and spinoffs. Milo Ventimiglia involved in upcoming hockey drama "Hometown Saints" STARS ON SCREEN
