T8 WHATS UP! February 27 - March 5, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "The Dropout" Follow along with the true story of a business venture gone wrong with "The Dropout," the new miniseries premiering Thursday, March 3, on Hulu. Based on the podcast of the same name by Emmy-winning journalist Rebecca Jarvis and ABC Audio, this biographical drama chronicles the true story of the rapid rise and fall of American biotechnology entre- preneur Elizabeth Holmes and her company Theranos. Holmes, portrayed in the series by Aman- da Seyfried ("Les Misérables," 2010), dropped out of Stanford University to pursue a promis- ing business prospect with a new and potentially revolution- ary blood-testing technology. Building her company quickly, unforeseen complications with the product and Elizabeth's ac- tions led to the fall of Theranos and a massive fraud lawsuit. Created and written by Jarvis with fellow ABC news produc- ers Taylor Dunn and Victoria Thompson (both of "GameStopped," 2021), "The Dropout" is directed by Michael Showalter ("Search Party"), Francesca Gregorini ("The Truth About Emanuel," 2013) and Erica Watson ("Snowpierc- er"). Battling against incredible odds, the pair fight to make their way out alive.
