February 13 - 19, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Space Force" - Season 2 Witness an attempt at making history in Season 2 of "Space Force," premiering on Netflix on Friday, Feb. 18. This space- themed satire series stars Steve Carell ("The Office") as Gen. Mark Naird, the officer in charge of getting the sixth offi- cial branch of the United States Armed Service, The Space Force, up into the great un- known by 2024. As the team in charge of establishing the branch struggles through set- backs from technology, bureau- cracy, the media and their own leaders, this quirky workplace comedy-drama finds the team in the midst of what seems like an impossible feat. Heading into Season 2, the team is forced to deal with the threat of im- pending nuclear war as the fight to get their program off the ground continues. The se- ries is created and written by Carell and powerhouse comedy producer Greg Daniels, known for "The Office," "The Simp- sons" and "Parks and Recre- ation," to name a few. Joining Carell in "Space Force's" talent- ed cast are John Malkovich ("In the Line of Fire," 1993), Ben Schwartz ("Parks and Recre- ation"), Diana Silvers ("Booksmart," 2019), Tawny Newsome ("Star Trek: Lower Decks"), Jimmy O. Yang ("Love Hard," 2021), Don Lake ("Zooto- pia," 2016), Owen Daniels ("Up- load"), Hector Duran ("McFar- land, USA," 2015), Dan Bakke- dahl ("Veep"), Spencer House ("The Society"), Lisa Kudrow ("Friends") and Chris Gethard ("The Dictator," 2012). WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "LOL: Last One Laughing Canada" - Season 1 Laugh your heart out when the new comedy competition series "LOL: Last One Laughing Cana- da" premieres on Prime on Fri- day, Feb. 18. Adapted from the hit Japanese series "Hitoshi Matsu- moto Presents Documental," "LOL: Last One Laughing" has been adopted in several coun- tries across the world, with Can- ada hosting the show's latest it- eration. Trapping 10 of Canada's most hilarious comedians to- gether in a room, the group is tasked with trying to make each other laugh. The twist: Anyone who laughs is out, and the last comedian standing takes home the $100,000 prize for a charity of their choice. Hosted by Jay Baruchel ("Knocked Up," 2007), the six-part season stars Canadi- an comedy greats Tom Green ("Freddy Got Fingered," 2001), Caroline Rhea ("Sabrina the Teenage Witch"), Colin Mochrie ("Whose Line is it Anyway?"), K. Trevor Wilson ("Letterkenny"), Debra DiGiovanni ("Cute Boy of the Week"), Jonathan Jajoie ("The League"), Brandon Ash Mohammed ("This Hour Has 22 Minutes"), Andrew Phung ("Kim's Convenience"), Dave Foley ("The Kids in the Hall") and Mae Martin ("Feel Good"). The series is produced by "Big Brother Canada's" Erin Brock, John Brunton and Liam Colle, and by Shannon Farr of "Falcon Beach". WHAT'S NEW ON PARAMOUNT+ "Big Nate" - Season 1 Settle in for a whole new adven- ture with the series premiere of "Big Nate," launching on Para- mount+ Thursday, Feb. 17. Based on the comic strip and children's book series of the same name by Lincoln Pierce, this computer- animated kids series follows the adventures (and misadventures) of rebellious sixth-grader Nate Wright (Ben Giroux, "Henry Danger"). Frequently accompa- nied by his two best friends and partners in crime, Francis (Dan- iel M.K. Cohen, "Lego City Ad- ventures") and Teddy (Arnie Pantoja, "Sydney White," 2007), the series sees Nate take on teachers, crushes, family and friends as he navigates growing up. Directed by Jim Mortensen ("Trolls: The Beat Goes On!"), the series also voice stars Mi- chael Rivkin ("Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny"), Dove Cameron ("Descendants," 2015), Jack Black ("School of Rock," 2003), Rob Delaney ("Catastro- phe"), Kevin Michael Richard- son ("Lilo & Stitch," 2002), Charlie Schlatter ("Winx Club"), Carolyn Hennesy ("General Hospital"), Ryan W. Garcia ("My Fiona," 2021), Danny Jacobs ("Penguins of Madagascar," 2014) and Bryce Charles ("Tales of the City"). WHAT'S NEW ON APPLE TV+ "Severance" Nothing is as it seems in Ben Stiller's ("Zoolander," 2001) new Apple TV+ workplace thriller "Severance," premiering Friday, Feb. 18, on the streamer. Adam Scott ("Parks and Recreation") leads the cast as Mark, the leader of a team of office workers whose memories have been sur- gically provided. Split into work memories and personal life memories, the workers' minds stay completely focused on the part of their life that is currently in front of them. But when a strange colleague and a number of mysteries start to show up in both parts of Mark's life, he be- gins to question his job and him- self. Executive produced and di- rected by Stiller, the series is also directed by Aoife McArdle ("All of This Unreal Time," 2021) and written by co-executive produc- er Mohamed el Masri ("Here and Now"), newcomer Dan Er- ickson and Wei-Ning Yu ("Briar- patch"). Patricia Arquette ("Me- dium"), Dichen Lachman ("Raya and the Last Dragon," 2021), Christopher Walken ("Catch Me If You Can," 2002), Britt Lower ("Casual"), John Turturro ("Bar- ton Fink," 1991), Zach Cherry ("You"), Jen Tullock ("Perry Ma- son"), Tramell Tillman ("Godfa- ther of Harlem") and Marc Geller ("The Eric Andre Show") also star in the series.
