S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Ad- ministrator Karen G. Mills. SBA acted under its own authority to declare a di- saster following the July 22, 2010 de- nial of the state’s request for a major disaster declaration. Submitted by Joe Winslow, Quartzsite Town Councilmember P 5 good news from council The Concession Stand septic tank Dina Wilson, a Councilmember from Mesa, once remarked on her first political term of office;” I was prepared for the bureaucracy to move as slow as a snail. But after a few months in office it seemed it moved more like a Glacier.” Quartzsite’s own bureaucratic glacier has finally begun to grind its way forward once more. The Animal Shelter is nearly finished, and is currently housing approximately 30 kittens and adult cats along with 3 really active puppies. The Community Center Building is still in the grant process; once approved, it must be finished within three (3) years. I think we can manage that, don’t you? The hotel on Kuehen has gone through its second set of civil plan checks and had the drainage, water and wastewater reports received. According to Nora Yackley from Town Hall, we are now waiting for the Project Engineer to respond to the comments of the Town Engineer. I expect somebody will engineer an actual building soon- barring the need for more comments. HHERB’S Serving Quartzsite since 1974! Your Local Hardware Store! 240 N. Central (Hwy. 95) Quartzsite Lumber, Fasteners, Guitar Strings & Picks Plumbing, Electrical, RV Supplies, SUMMER HOURS: Mon. - Sat. 7a.m. - 1p.m. Closed Sunday 928-927-6587 permit has been submitted to the county and should be granted within the next week or so. Once that is completed, we can put in the rough plumbing and pour the slab. It will be great to sit in the bleachers, watch a game while drinking a coke and eating a hot dog or hamburger. The Assisted Care Facility is still being reviewed by H.U.D. which could take up to another 90 days. They will start breaking ground shortly after. If this project takes much longer, I may have to sign up as a resident. There are many more projects in various stages around town. Time and bureaucratic paperwork aside, wonderful things are beginning to happen, and will continue to happen in the future of our little town. Things will progress if we have to take a hair dryer to that bureaucratic Glacier to make it all happen- Now there’s a mental image! 425 N. Central (Hwy. 95) OPEN 7:30 am - 2 pm Closed Wed.
