ALPHA AVALANCHE | TEXAS ALPHA | PHI KAPPA PSI | | SPRING/SUMMER EDITION 2021
SERVICE ABOVE ALL ELSE
"Answering the call to provide aid and sympathy to those less fortunate…"
The undergraduate chapter rose to the occasion to help
others in the community this past year. They hosted
a weekly COVID-19 supply drive, providing personal
protective equipment, granola bars, bottles of water and
small containers of hand sanitizer to those in need around
West Campus and downtown Austin. Halfway through the
semester they transitioned to food supply drives.
Additionally, the chapter partnered with UT student
organization Greek Meds to host multiple events to benefit
Dell Children's Medical Center and Austin State Hospital,
including writing cards and letters for Valentine's Day to
boost spirits during the pandemic. The chapter also hosted
multiple COVID-19 PCT testing clinics in partnerships with
UT Health and Sorority and Fraternity Life; they also are the
only Greek chapter to host COVID-19 vaccine clinics.
After finding out that one of the brothers' parents was
diagnosed with multiple sclerosis this past semester, the
chapter organized a Race for the Cure 5K to benefit the
National MS Society and raised $5,510 in April to raise
awareness and funding for this cause and further research.
Additionally, several members ran a 5K on Saturday, May 8,
to help raise awareness.
The chapter completed over 2,000 hours of community
service and raised over $10,000 for various charitable
organizations during the 2020-21 academic year. The
brothers are excited about future opportunities to give back
and support the UT and Austin communities!
